So theres been some rumors about climbing been taken out, personally I loved climbing around in the other gothic games, question is if they oversimplified the game or if they took climbing out for balance reasons, so you can't stand on the roof of a building and shoot fireballs at the npc's while they're unable to get to you.
What do you guys think?, good or bad if it has been removed, and if it has and the reason is what I stated would it be a fair one so players can't exploit the ai's?

I don't see why it would be removed due to AI exploitation, as it wouldn't be a huge amount of extra code to get the AI climbing too.. My guess would be it was removed because there was little need for it.. Why would you need to climb if there is nothing to climb too?

So the game has been simplified then and it is as I feared, they removed the sense of exploration in return for immediate gratification.
Of course it's too early to jump to conclusions but that doesn't look good.

I don`t think they had any reson to remove it.It wasn`t a huge game element, but it wasn`t in the way of anything either.
Anyways,i can`t wait for it to come out,i remember reading on the old topic that we might see a rls tommorow.

Yes,if i`d wait for it to come to my country(Romania) i`d get it by december. So i`ll just have to hope it`ll be posted on some torrent tracker asap.
I always liked the gothic series. It had a certain feeling that other games lacked. It was so nicely blended,so full of common sense that it made me finish both games about 2-3 times each.

I guess it`s because of the massive offtopic started on that one.
Btw,how many cities/settlements/camps are there in this game?
I remember a preview somewhere having a number,but i can`t seem to come up with a number...

It was removed because it was full of crap, lets get one thing straight, if you have nothing to say about Gothic 3 then your in the wrong thread.
Ontopic: It's been confirmed by the tester from WoG James Bond that climbing has indeed been taken out of the game.

I tried about 3 times (install unistall install etc) Gothic 2 but some how I dint like it. The fighting system seemed to be weird or some how .... I dont know... I just dint get the hang of it (maybe a tutorial would have helped me). And the graphics where nice but it ran like shit on my pc. Even when I had a good one (9800 pro with 1gig ram etc)... it just dint feel right for me.

I sure hope that this Gothic 3 is going to be better experience for me...

Hopefully its a classic RPG not the Oblivion type that was killed by that stupid levelling system (all things level up with u) and the lack of loot in caves (always the same shit in oblivion).

Saw a mini movie about the fighting and it seemed more fun.

yeah too bad about the climbing, too many bugs due to exploits they said. perhaps it can be unlocked again via the console..

From what i've heard the fighting has been simplified in G3 which is sad if it's true, the fighting system in Gothic1-2 was the best ever in any RPG imo, really fun and almost arcade-like with the different moves.

discworld: the fighting sucks at lvl1 and for some leves since you havent unlocked any moves.. it's like oblivion but better..

Good the fighting should suck at level 1, otherwise there would be nothing to strive for, in Oblivion you never learn more moves, only learn how to do more damage but with the same moves you know when you begin, not logical at all.
With regarding to the leveling, all the creatures and npc's have predefined levels, there is no random leveling until you have killed some creatures in a zone, then some new ones will spawn randomly. So it's perfectly possible to go places at level 1 where you will be severely pwnd.

Oblivion had a more intuitive fighting sistem. You did learn moves, but improving your skill didn`t only offer new moves,it modified the way you fought. So you swinged faster, recovered faster from a direct hit,had a bigger chance to hit,etc with higher skill lvls.
As for lvled ares,i feel that you shouldn`t be able to explore the whole map as you did in oblivion.Because of the dumb ass scaling sistem, you could visit ancient ruins of great evil at lvl 1 and only fight several rats and mudcrabs. You also didn`t get anything better than a couple of apples and a rusty sword.Excuse me,but this is supposed to be an ancient ruin.Where is all the l33t lewt?
Fortunately,gothic 3 won`t have the same shortcomings...

You got new moves.. the first one is that you can swing your sword while jumping/falling, havent really played it that much (waiting for mods to fix this broken game) but i think the fighting is improved even further than that.

And yes the fighting should suck at lvl1, too bad many people quit playing Gothic at lvl1 because they didt understand that the fighting would get better and better..

Gothic fighting system was super , level 1 you fighted like a pussy - two hands on the sword , not even too strong to lift it up or make complex moves , the more you leveled the more you becamed a sword master - could swing your sword with one hand , make 15 hit combo with diffrent moves , you could jump and swing your sword and other cool stuff , the same was with your Bow , CrossBow , Magic .... anyway i loved when your hero learned acrobatics , then you could roll over , do diving jumps , jump sideways like lara croft Razz and at the same time kill your enemy with your sword ... it was like Max Pain Gothic stylie Razz Very Happy ...

too bad they removed leveling ... but it proves my theory that every game that Ships to Usa must be Dumbed down to they standards

How is the fighting in the Gothic series? Is it like Oblivion (swing the sword and that's it) or is it action oriented like Dark Messiah?

you learn how to fight - it was more like Jedi Knight 2 or 3 when Kyle learned how to really hold a light sword .... or Jedi Knight Academy

"Oblivion" fighting style is crap , and "Dark Messiah" fighting from the demo was similar to the fighting system from "The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay"

so to answer your question the more you leveled the more it becamed action oriented - for that this game was Great
