I noticed in the nfo for "Half-Life 2 & Counter-Strike Source Protocol v7 Update (c) Valve", there is a patch that requires the original GCF files. However, if I already installed the "Half-Life 2 (c) Valve *CD Version Upgrade*", are the GCF modified? I read the nfo, and it says it changes the names...
If that's the case, for everybody who has the 1.10 emulator, can they still upgrade to the 2.0 even though it seems that the GCF files are already modified?

This release works for multiplayer, but it breaks single player Half-Life 2.
When it tries to save either manually or automatically... the game crashes with a Source - Fatal Error (Could not acquire necessary game files because the connection to Steam servers was lost.)

hoo haaa i solved the save error.
use the online reg for online play "steam online"
then run steam, login with username and password
then go to:
C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\User\Half-Life 2
remember the NFO when it told you to edit steamemu.ini, do the same here and put SteamOnline=1
; Enable online Steam play
; This enables the ability to play Half-Life 2: Deathmatch and Counter-Strike: Source on any server.
; Log in to the Valve Steam client with a valid steam account (no subscriptions to games needed)
; And enter the Steam information here
; For example:
; SteamOnline=1
; SteamUser=MySteamUser
; SteamPassword=MySteamPassword
SteamOnline=1
SteamUser=
SteamPassword=
after that, saving in hl2 now works, with the steam running in the tray
havent checked if it works offline\without steam yet,-but it WORKS now

one problem ive found,..seems steam needs to be running, and you need to be online to save..bummer
***************edit*****************************
good news, u dont have to be online for the saves to work.
stupid me i forgot something.
in steamemu.ini in folder
C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\User\Half-Life 2
set SteamOnline=0
but keep youre username and password there.
and steam needs to be running before u play, when steam pops up it gives u the option to start in offline mode.
so now it works.., just a little work if u change from being online to offline
TheDamned...why are u here? do u buy all games, films, music.
if no then ........

I'd rather pay 0$ and have guarantee I can play the game for as long as I like than pay 50$ and risk getting my account disabled. Which option would you choose?

Faster schmaster, afaik the Vengeance release was the first one to work perfectly without too much hassle. Not to mention that both the CD and DVD releases of Emporio were nuked.
And to TheDamned I'd like to say that when you grow up a little and break out of your cocoon, you'll see that owning HL2 won't make you any better than the rest of us. I for one plan on buying the game when I get the budget. That's just my personal decision. I still understand those who don't want to buy the game, may their motives be whatever.

just want to add that, steamemu.ini if left unedited for halflife 2 that is no username/password and set SteamOnline=0 allows u to play w/o needing to run steam again also run steam-offline.reg before trying to play hl2 single player if u have used steam-online.reg before!!!

To support valve so we can have additional maps/mods/exansions.
"fUCK TheY HAve AlreadY toNs of Money!" so? they deserv it, they spent 40mil on developing the source engine, if i remember correctly.

This release beat emporio... one CGF in the steam folder with original install and online/offline switch pretty easilly, play online on legit servers, guess mods will work... emporio suck this release rules!

I feel sorry for you.. every time the game updates you will need to download 35x15 mb or something.. and it needs steam running.. which isnt very smart
btw it isnt original installer.. it's modified.
this update will kill hl2 sp (when saving a game)
