Play the broken sword remake if you can on wii or iphone and if you only have a PC, play it with Dolphin emulator, it runs perfectly with the mouse. Else play Broken Sword 1 to 4 (1 and 2 are the best though), and the Runaway series is great. Tales of Monkey Island is good too, but of all these games, BS 1 and 2 are still the best !
About oldies, Day of the Tentacle, Sam & Max and specially Full Throttle (incredible game !)
Quest for Glory series - RPG/Adventure hybrids, some of the best games I've ever played
Conquests of the Longbow - criminally overlooked, it's my most favorite Sierra game, has tons of freedom (almost sandboxy) and it's just great
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade/and The Fate of Atlantis - Need I say anything?
Scratchers: Director's Cut - GREAT horror adventure
Realms of the Haunting - FPS/Adventure, an amazing game with a wonderful Lovecraftian setting and a good plot
Richard Benson: " Durante tutta la mia esistenza, ho avuto sempre un sogno...
(Throughout my whole existence, I've always had a dream...)
Loving fan: "un cazzo 'n culo!"
(A cock deep inside your ass!)
If its ones with inventory based puzzles then there are loads.
if its the general puzzle games, its worth checking out things like 7th Guest and 11th Hour, Ripper, Black Dahlia etc.... because they all have some fantastic puzzles in them, and some of them a good story too.

If you ever go for more monkey island type games then "jack keyne" was great. aswell as the new episodes from monkey island and monkey island special edition so you can do it again in modern graphics lol .

I think the inventory puzzle games are better, because they can be pretty creative and you have to think outside the box for a lot of the puzzles. Plus there are usually more characters for you to interact with so you don't feel so lonely. I don't know what it is with those other games, but they never have enough people to talk to, it's just you and the puzzles.
Seriously, do it. FANTASTIC game, very under-appreciated.
+1
i played this through like six months ago and loved it
there should be more psychedelic games like this that deal with the insides of people's minds

I have never thought of it that way, and to some extent I agree.
Games like Ripper and Blue Dahlia have lots of cast members though that are talkable too (Christopher Walken in Ripper and Dennis Hopper in Blue Dahlia among others), but I see your point.

Woah! So I'm not the only one that remembers Realms of the Hauntings!! That game ruled! I installed it recently to replay it, but hell... you can't customize the controls, and the defaul ones suck, not to talk of the horrible mouse implementation (moves the pointer but not the camera... wtf?)
As we are on topic, can anyone recommend some good horror/mystery point n click adventures? Something along the lines of Scratches (horror) or The Black Mirror (mystery)??
And finally, my recomendations:
Darkness Within: In Pursuit of Loath Nolder, great horror game, with Lovecraftian atmosphere and great spooky locations. Story is a bit obscure, but overall a great horror adventure.
Secret Files: Tunguska good mystery/adventure point and click game, worth playing for sure. But don't bother with the sequel, much worse than the original imho.
