These guys are extremely versatile comedians, and while they only do it for skill and fun they are mentioning a very obvious truth, the fact that the world of popular music is filled with repetition and over simplistic song structures and the only thing that gives a notion of change to the whole industry is the change on tempo and different vocal melodic structure.

Pop is pop because it's popular not because it's particularly interesting. It's easy to sing along to; catchy for the masses.
