Ello!
I got this weird problem on a friends computer. Every time I play a DVD movie then exit the program the computer just freezes dead, when not playing a DVD movie the computer is fine, now I've updated DirectX, tried a couple of different players, tested the system for hardware faults like memory, hdd, gfx card etc and none were found with PC-Check I've even tried a new DVD-Writer, RAM, Gfx card and tried the gfx on the mobo but it still freezes, I'm starting to run out of ideas and the only thing left is the mobo and cpu.. I dont want to reinstall windows but I cant see it being that as XP would bluescreen not freeze usually, anyone else have any other ideas? Thanks yous.

+1 for crappy drivers
i've had some driver trouble with starforce and anydvd so by principle i won't install anything that would mess with my drivers
also, some dvd drive brands are just shit and freeze up the system
when i had one, i would just tear the cables off from the drive (which is a BAD idea, but i was angry) and the OS would resume

It had false registry entres in the media player tree, things he installed for media player but didnt uninstall them propley, not sure why it would freeze on other players unless they link with media player in some way.
I like bum.
