Like I posted a minute ago: LAN parties.
Other than that though, not being able to play online is kinda lame... but it is a closed beta, so go figure.
Here's what we do.
www.hamachi.cc
Create a VPN w/ Hamachi and we all get together and LAN via the internet. Anyone interested?
BTW, anyone who's interested and already has Hamachi...

Just a little info, GameSpy blocks the CD Key. Here is the info you'll need to block (firewall, HOSTS, Protowall, etc).
GameSpy Industries
207.38.8.34
destination port: 27900, 27910, (28910 for the "Find Servers" button in multiplay, will crash the game if you have it blocked and click the button)
You can host games this way, not sure yet about joining. Hop on our Hamachi FEAR network if you're interested in testing.

Can't seem to join any server or even host a game. As soon as I click launch in the menu it just sits there. There isnt even any maps to choose from when trying to host a game.

Do you have anything blocking GameSpy or any IANA connections?

Protowall worked good. Blocked that IP n00b posted. But can only half the servers now, and haven't been able to join one with people yet. Can host just fine though.
Someone needs to crack this puppy.

how exactly are you able to host a server? I blocked that ip and still am not able to do it. Do you just go into multiplayer and hit launch and thats it? I tried going into the missions menu and selecting a level but there is nothing there...

Yeah its as simple as a normal launch, after you block it of course...the cd-auth will attempt at incomming from internet connection, so if you want you can just block its access entirly, while leaving the outgoing internet open. That should get you a hosted game, but not sure if anyone will be able to join, even under Hamachi, when your blocking incomming internet traffic.
I guess you could re-enable it after you start the game though.
But blocking it with another program like Protowall is your best bet. I also added the information to my filter list in the firewall, but it still catches me on auth when I try to join other servers.
Either way its a pain in the ass, joining other servers is useless, and I cant change the connection type from internet to LAN, so I'm not even sure you could get a game going through Hamachi and have it bypass the cd check.
