It's not worth it if you have a PC with something other than integrated graphics. Xbox version runs at 640x480 , and levels are chopped up to pieces to accommodate for lol amount of RAM in the Xbox. See, once upon a time, in a land far far away, games were made better for PC and then ported to the lol hardware of consoles.

Gotta agree with iNathan about this, Doom 3 on XBOX sucks ass. But I guess he wanna play other games too.
In any case, if you wanna mod your xbox, you don't need a chip, a softmod works perfectly. If you don't want to hunt down for games that can install the exploit, you can easily put the mod on the XBOX HDD doing a hot swap in IDE with your PC (since it's IDE, it's kinda risky for the HDD, but it seems most people do it fine).

Go for it.
Xbox had some really nice games.
Ninja Gaiden, Oddworld:strangers wrath, SW:Kotor, SC:chaos theory, Riddick, PGR2, Psychonauts, Rallisport challange 2, and more.
Ninja Gaiden. What a game that was. 10/10.

What about a PC based Xbox Emulator? Do they exist? Might be a better option for you unless you want it for a media centre (in which was, why not get an acer aspire revo for cheap and use that.

LØL = Laughing Øut Loud, meaning Laughing In Loud?
@Horrordee
There isn't any emulator, unfortunately... I wonder why that is, because the Xbox hardware is really just a PC slapped with some custom firmware. You'd think emulating it would be simpler than emulating x86, and yet...

Never had any issues replacing a HD in softmodded xboxs. Ive done at least 50, no issues.
Xbox IMO are useless now as media centers. I have replaced all 3 of mine becasue they are just to under powered to play anything other than 700MB Divx.
For games i would say its worth $40, but i see them here all the time for $25.

As I said; PITA. Especially considering to use a new HDD in a mod-chipped Xbox all you do is add put it in the machine and run the AID |
what about usingr regular dvds? lol i don't need a super duper xbox right now
just something to play conker on... and maybe some old gems i missed out on. like halo 1 and halo 2.

Xbox 1 with component cable, 500gb hard drive, and emulations is awesome. You can get 1080i res from emulators. With 500gb, you can fit over 300 xbox games averaging 1.5gb.
If you hate it, ignore it.

i just wanna play conker and a couple of others
i don't need fancy shmancy jumbotron stuff at the moment
i wanna plug in xbox
softmod
download conker
burn conker
insert conker
play conker
i wanna accomplish that in one day without fuss
other stuff i'll worry after
and maybe jade empire
Psychonauts
Ninja Gaiden
Need for Speed Most Wanted
Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath
like mainly platformers
360 lacks that
except for wii
all other platform platformers suck
and im not buying a ps3 for that ragdoll game even though its awesome
35$ is cheaper than 300

Yes, you can just put the DVD in the drive and it will play fine on a softmod machine. As for PS2? Easier than the Xbox actually; all you need is to buy a set called Swap Magic. Ideally you want the PStwo Slim, as the has a simple fliptop lid .. so you just insert Swap Magic, load, open lid, replace disk.. play! With the fat PS2 you need to use a sliding tool which unlocks the tray and physically pulls it out.
Clunky but with a bit of practice you can do it in seconds.

with the fat you get HDLoader and use your internal HDD

There are some ways to softmod a PS2, like this for ex:
Spoiler: | Softmodding is a way of modifying your PS2 without the need for opening it up and soldering all sorts of stuff together. I have seen kids as young as 8 grasp the concept of softmodding pretty fast... so no excuses guys/gals. This method lets you do all sorts of cool stuff such as emulating SNES games and ripping your PS2 game discs straight to your installed hard drive (don't panic we'll cover that too!) so you can play them without the disc. Ripped games play alot smoother than the original games, no skipping, shorter loading times, and it saves your laser reader in you PS2 as it isn't used apart from when you boot up! Sounds good huh? Well lets get cracking!
What you need:
-PS2 console (original chunky one, none of this slim nonsense)
-IDE hard drive (I have been told that PS2s only accept 40-120GB but I had no problems with a 320GB)
-PS2 network adapter (these are quite hard to come by nowadays but I picked up one on eBay for cheap cheap cheap)
-PS2 memory card
-Action Replay Max (again eBay or Amazon is the way to go)
-Flash drive
-PSone disc (most will work, it is only used as the trigger disc (if that doesn't make sense yet don't panic)
|
For the full tutorial google "How to softmod your fat PS2", there are tons of those.

No, no free way (wellllll... CogSwap, but that's even more of a pain in the arse ) Not to mention the cost of buying the network adaptor and HDD for the fat PS2. Swap Magic is dirt cheap mate, no more than £20.
