The title says pretty much everything.
I was initially aiming at the razer megalodon headset. But the only thing stopping me from purchasing is the sky-soaring price tag. And most of the reviews I skimmed through on the net are a bit average. Well, reviews orbiting around the 7/10 score are making it partially unjustifiable considering what an expensive product it is.
What other alternatives does the market offer?
And I'm also not asking for some half-penny and egg-shell headsets which are gone end up broken in my hands after a week's usage.
In the end, I'm still open up to suggestions and user impressions on the megalodon though. Is it worth it after all?

Can't comment on the Megalodon I'm afraid.

Got a Creative Fatality (HS-1000) at the moment, which turned out to be better than I expected it to be. I bought it after my Sennheisers broke as a cheap temporary set, but I'm still using it after almost a year now. Audio quality is decent, lacks a bit on the extremities, but very clear otherwise. Quite comfortable as well, the padding is still in almost pristine shape, and I use it pretty much daily.

That said, it's still not as good as a proper pair of headphones, my Sennheisers sounded better. At 30 EUR however, these sound better than any of the Steel, Plantronics or Sennheiser headsets I've tried.

If it's audio quality you're after, then just stop looking at headsets to be honest, and get a pair of quality headphones.

Steelseries Siberia. Haven't heard anything bad about em, I use Fatal1ty myself and I love em. But once my Fatal1ty breaks down i'm gonna try Siberia.

I currently use Roccat Kave, they have nice true 5.1 sound that plugs into 3 minijacks on your soundcard, 4 including the mic - I'll have none of that integrated usb soundcard crap.
