Because he thinks he is the next son of god and takes advice from his dead grandma who sits on his shoulder.... things you can laugh about at the end... but some really creepy shit when somebody is looking you right in the eyes and really believes what he tells you.
Because he didnt trust his parents anymore i had to take him to the mental institution where he suddenly completely freaked out... took his car and drove backwards in a fence before he took off.... left me standing for the police to arrive to get a ride home.

I think Latieza tried to do the right thing but what is the right thing in this case?
Just reading Latieza's statement about this person's behaviour schizophrenia is very likely.
If a person with a disorder like that becomes a danger to himself/herself or others forced institutionalisation is necessary.
If not a more peaceful approach is a lot better and try to convince a person that he/she needs to start with medication.

Sometimes I think that the average lay person, one without training are too quick to judge other people and their mental state. That is my comment here however I don't know what really happened in this situation. None of us do.

I got his mother crying on the phone telling me how thankfull she is ... so i think i did the right thing ...
Also the psychiatrists told me they didnt expect me to come in with a person in that bad shape like he was otherwise they would have alarmed police from the start .. i think this explains a bit the mental condition he was in. I'm sure he wouldnt harm me because he called me his councelor and business partner in the goods of god.
Thanks for the positive words .... its good to hear from other people i did the right thing .... and i also know i was right but on the inside it feels just wrong.

Schizophrenic in a psychotic episode. Damn, that guy needs real care and some strong drugs.
You definitely did the right thing, he could easily hurt himself or another without realizing it. Can't be reasoned with unfortunately. :/
Just know he'll get the sorely needed medical and psychological help to get better thanks to your actions.

Lathieza have you ever seen the short series "Kijken in de ziel"?
Only 6 episodes and should still be available on "uitzendiggemist", 1st episode we see a psychiatrist visiting a psychiatric patient at home and this patient also has a severe drug addiction.
He also tells in the camera about an imaginative case of a patient who thinks he has a chip in his head so he can speak to aliens in space. Maybe it can help you to get some ease of mind maybe not.

@iconized thanks for the link... i will check it out but i will wait a couple off days. I dealt with him yesterday for 5 hours and today allmost 8. First have to clear my head a bit again. Listening and trying to reason with those people really cracks your head.

You did the right thing indeed, now relax and try (if possible) to not think about that anymore.

Your friend shouldn't be institutionalized, he should migrate to the U.S. he could almost surely get a job on Fox News and become one of their really famous anchors

you did the right thing. ur friend will get help, and he wont be able to hurt anyone. you shouldnt feel bad about it, because you didnt screw him over or anything... its not that you did the 'morally' right thing, which is what can make you feel like crap, you did what as right 'by him'.

Giving a small update since we are a couple of days further....
The fucking lunatic broke out allready 3 times on 3 different days mostly with the use of a spoon and a fork ... FFS
Worst thing is .. the minute he comes out he comes to see me
Yesterday i was having some friends over and then he shows up ... damn... had to talk him down and hold him at the same location till the police would arrive.
How fucking hard can it be to hold a person down ???
Edit : btw ... it's getting easier and easier to turn him in

@Lathieza
I know how you feel on this man. I actually had to do this with my mom. The first night they had to remove her clothes and put her in a gown and a full strap down bed. She "somehow" removed the wiring from her bra and picked the locks and removed Terminator style and came home like she had just gotten home from "partying". I was only 18 .. but I was her executor so I had admitted her the first time with her consent. Then had to turn her in again. In the end when she finally settled and realized her delusions and problems and accepted the therapy she's a 100% different person now.
I know how it feels to slowly give up on your best friend due to the B.S. and I can't discourage it, but just trying to give you a sliver of hope in the future that it may improve. They say in interventions, to truly help the person, you have to cut them off. Don't give him a place to stay when he escapes, it's "enabling" I can't tell you whether or not to do this because I don't think I could of ever told my mother to fuck off when she came home from escaping...

Not everyone who is put into a mental institution is put under Hannibal Lecter watch. Where there is a will, there is a way. Mental Institutes are not prisons, and generally do not resemble them in anyway unless you've only seen one in a movie, or are a serious offender.

An institution with fences, closed circle cameras and security is enough for keeping most patients from escaping.
And when a patient with severe delusions (he may be dangerous as no one can guarantee he won't think his mother is possessed by the devil and must be destroyed), can easily escape whenever he pleases, without steps being taken to prevent this, then this mental institution should start working more properly.

That may be true, but what should be is not always what will be. I'm not advocating that they're trying their best or whatever, just saying.. low wage guards / employees, faulty closed circuit cameras with low resolution, and "fences" don't really equate too much to someone with the resolve to circumvent them.
