Continued from here you can find answers in that thread regarding AA, physx and which release works and what not.
This thread is for discussing the game, not being an idiot.
Questions pertaining to tech ie "Why doesn't this work" or "why does my game crash?"
will be asked and answered in the appropriate section or click here to go there.
Some resources for you.
Sli Patch
To enable DX 10, courtesy of Zed03, it should be noted that it's useless and prone to crashing.
Quote: |
Documents\My Games\Borderlands\WillowGame\Config\WillowEngine.ini
UseVsync=True
AllowD3D10=True if you support DX10 |
To use AA
Rename the borderlands.exe to XR_3DA.exe and set it up in your graphics card control panel.
More detailed info compiled by Mister_S
Quote: | Vysync:
Force it in the nvidia control panel (or in the ati one if there is such an option there) OR go to:
Documents/My Games/Borderlands/WillowGame/Config/
and open the file WillowEngine.ini
Go down to this line:
UseVsync=False
Change it to
UseVsync=True |
Quote: | FOV:
In your WillowInput.ini file Under [Engine.PlayerInput] Add these...
Bindings=(Name="F9",Command="FOV 85",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False)
Bindings=(Name="F10",Command="FOV xxx",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False)
And also add this to WillowGame.ini for it to work:
[WilloGame.WillowPlayerInput]
Bindings=(Name="F9",Command="FOV 85",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False)
Bindings=(Name="F10",Command="FOV xxx",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False)
For 16:9: 101.409630521
For 16:10: 95.4370607151
Toggle between default FOV and adjusted FOV with F9 and F10 |
Quote: | AA:
AA for Ati: rename Borderlands.exe to Bioshock.exe or UT3.exe. Force AA in CCC. Might need to put Catalyst AI to advanced.
Or use Rivatuner's "D3DOverrider".
AA for Nvidia: Use nHancer. |

also, for all i would suggest to disable Ambient Occlusion, kills FPS like hell and isnt really rewarding |
Sadly, the opposite was for me. I got AA working by renaming to bioshock.exe, but the performance hit was utterly unacceptable; dropped from 50-60fps steady range, to all-but-locked 30fps, and as earlier pointed out - less than 60fps causes mouse look to stutter and feel like low 20s, so imagine how bad it is at 30fps instead
On the opposite side; Ambient Occlusion looks fantastic, really adds depth to the shadows and lighting, but has a ZERO performance hit. Seriously, I checked - over and over - with AO on and off; there's not even a single frame performance difference.
Go figure eh?

I only got to play a few minutes of it due to time contraints but, I did however almost blow through a stoplight getting it home safe
I love...no wait, I FUCKING LOVE the way they did the NPC characters especially when introducing them <3
I also personally like the jaggies, kinda adds to the picture I guess, *shrugs*

I'm starting to see why everyone was getting so annoyed. That question has been answered countless times, go read the other thread.

@Epsilon: isn't it better to post the most important technical info (Vsync, AA and FOV) in your post?
There is no manual save function in this one right? Or did I overlook it?
@Sabin: any regrets about starting as a soldier?

Nah, no manual save. The game autosaves every time you pass a beacon, and every time you quit the game.

Write it up for me and I'll put it in. I don't have the information.

No, didn't see one (manual save), just the things that light up when you get near, and the ones where you can change shirt colors.
BTW, what is the icon when changing colors on the top (next to the man)? Is it a pet or something? I can't click it yet, but seems saved for later...
Edit: This is what I meant:

Epsilon....dude I love you. Thank you so much for this. I was going to call out the moderators in my rant, but that wasn't my place, and I didn't want to disrespect because moderation is largely a thankless job anyway, so I really REAALLY mean it when I say thank you.
Getting back on topic, I alluded to a secret basement level in New Haven. It got a lot of attention on the Borderlands forum, but I'm not sure if everyone here was familiar with it. I'll put the information in spoilers on where it is and how to unlock it, as while it's a fun little thing, it isn't imperative to do, and I don't want people to get their hopes up. It is however another instance of Gearbox's uncanny sense of humour in this game.
Spoiler: | In new haven, there's a blue building directly behind Dr. Zed's shop, with a mailbox in front of the door. There's also one a bit south on the trash heap, but I think that's the wrong one. Anyway, when you get the mission "Another Piece to the Puzzle" you can open the door. It's ONLY when you have that mission in your log that this'll work, but everything comes together when you beat that mission. Assuming you even get the reference. If you don't get it at all, I can spoil that for you too |
I'd love to get the PC version, but it's not an option for me, and honestly I'm having enough fun with it on my 360, since that's where most of my buddies are playing it. I just wish they had a system where you could upload your characters stats to "show off" a bit. I understand the PC version was getting this functionality, so I'm curious if anyone has heard anything more about that?
*editted for spelling. durr there their they're*
i can has computar?!

Just got that classmod, but didn't get the talent bonus from it... Do you have to have points already invested in the skill for it to work? Lowers the value of these things by a lot if so.

as far im told, you need a point in the skill before the mod skills will work. But it dosn't show any indication in the skill tree.
