http://www.mightyape.co.nz/product/Xbox-360-Wireless-Controller-for-WinXPVista-USB/1529945/

are they worth getting? obviously ill never use it for anything requiring aiming, but driving games and adventure/action type games really are made for em, so im thinking i may as well bite the bullet and consolify my pc... just a little bit... with a pad.

any problems? they work fine with win7? wireless works ok? etc etc etc?

I've been wanting to pick one of these up myself, I have heard nothing but good things about them, good response, and excellent gameplay for platform on pc. Have heard they work just fine on Win7

I'd go for the wired version. You don't need to worry about charging the battery, its lighter (no battery) and cheaper.

Picking up a wired one myself tomorrow, to replace my trusty Logitech Rumblepad 2. I was looking for a gamepad with analog triggers; this one has that, and considering we're getting 360 ports with native 360 button layouts..might as well Very Happy

What you get in a shop is a controller WITHOUT rechargeable battery (but I think you get a pair of AA batteries with it for one charge). When you buy a rechargeable battery you can choose between a cheaper model with an USB cable for charging and a more expensive one with a dedicated wall charger.

Theres also compat issues with the wireless one, some games simply won't respond to it.. you'll want to get a wired one. The batteries on the other hand are charged via the play n charge cable which I personally couldn't get to work via the PC but only when I had it plugged into the xbox, the other "kit" that comes with the wireless one plugs into the back of the controller causing an annoying bulge that can get in the way but they can use standard backup batteries if needed, get recharble ones then yes, standard wall charge.

thanks for the feedback.. i guess wired is the way to go.

oh one other question... have there been revisions of the pad or anything? is any pad as good as the next, what should i look for? has there only ever been 'one' official xbox pad?

I don't have the PC one..but I'd have to agree, I enjoyed wireless for my 360 for a few months until I went through 2 chargers and 4 batteries from constant recharging and accidental overcharging. I'd have to suggest wired as well Smile

I have the wired version and I can confirm the positive feedbacks: no problem whatsoever (W7x64 here), a perfect support for all the recently released games and a good ergonomicity. Wink

Hmm, I just realized I already have a receiver (MS keyboard and mouse), however, I'm not sure it's compatible, but it's a 2.4Ghz receiver and the wireless 360 controller is 2.4Ghz as well.

How's that work with them all going at the same frequency, not mixed signals?

Theres a couple unofficial ones like mad katz but they make horrible stuff. The pad is the same on all of them as far as I know but there ARE mods online you can read to make them more responsive to what you need IE street fighter.

And for the questions above, if you would like the wireless one to work you have to get the USB Dongle, but as I've said, theres games now and then that don't respond well to it, buddy couldn't get half of his games to work so he got a wired instead.

No, sadly. If you want to hook the wireless 360 to your PC, you need MS's dedicated wireless receiver. It doesn't actually come with the controller... Sad

I have the X360 wireless controller on my game room PC, and it came with the USB receiver (I have never seen them not come bundled with the receiver). Best controller i have used on my PC hands down. It also supports the x360 wheel. Feels like im on my 360 in games like just cause 2 and Dirt 2, controls are great. Only difference is the GFX are better on my PC.

There are two versions of the controller, a Xbox version and a PC version. For the wired controller both versions are the same, they just have a different box for marketing reasons. But for the wireless controller the more expensive PC version comes bundled with a USB receiver. Once you have a receiver you can get the cheaper Xbox version if you want more controllers/the wheel (although there sure are much better wheels for PC).

i have now successfully consolised my pc. bought the wired one, tried it out with split/second

...crashing makes me feel all tingly Very Happy

just thought id share this little nugget.... asked the ppl i was buying it from if the controllers sold for the xbox worked just fine on the pc if i grabbed the drivers for them (this was before me7 made his post) - i did a little research as well and felt confident that there'd be no problems... got this back from the sales staff at the online store:

(should specify my inquiry was purely for the wired and not the wireless version)
Quote:
Thank-you for your message Smile

The Xbox 360 controller that comes with the Xbox will not work on a PC...only the Windows versions will work on a PC. We will have fresh stock of both the wired & wireless versions in this week.

indeed... fresh stock that would no doubt have an extra 10 bucks tacked on to cover that expensive driver cd Very Happy

anyway as always, this is just more proof that you should always do your own research and never listen to sales people. my XBOX controller MADE FOR XBOX works just find on my pc Very Happy

now if youll excuse me im going to put the controller down my pants and crash a little more in split/second.

thanx for all the help Wink

The staff are lying out their arses just to hike the price up for the PC version. Wired controller works out-of-the-box on Windows PCs, whether it's wired X360 controller or wired 360 controller-for-Windows, they're both identical Rolling Eyes

The only difference is wireless and, as I said; you need the USB receiver which doesn't come with the 360 version of the wireless pad, only in bundles specifically for the PC - or separately if you already own the controller.

Because what would be the point having a PC if everything just worked without hassle? You might as well go the whole hog and get an Xbox to go along with that controller... Razz

Check the USB device settings in your device manager. It's keeping the CPU busy, so it goes into another sleep mode. I can't remember for the life of me which ones it was, but it's generally caused by a USB device keeping it awake. Google it to find out, I'll google it later when I get back if you can't find it, it's got something to do with the BIOS setting of sleep mode (which is typically a hybrid mode) and USB wakeup settings in Windows.

corded xbox360 controller for pc windows 7 ftw! so glad i got one works flawless...

ps. sleep modes are pointless.. your hardware wont wear out any more or less for whatever reasons.. never used sleep shit never will, power and monitors always on first thing i do when os is setup is turn off that funky sleep shit and pwer saving bullcrap..

pc runs better always on anyhow, shutdown hit the power button if u ever go out for long periods is about as good as it gets here with me..
