there have been like 3 release of this already who worked perfectly... why is this one the "scene winner"? Because of a known name? pffff

anyway ppatcher already enabled us to play so..

EDIT: haha I didn't know they kept the old models from the first release and did not use the ones from the high resolution pack...

You'll see some minor ragdoll stuff and some nice looking water, that's about it. Wink

No, because the other releases were steam-rips.
This one are the original install-files from the DVD.

As I said later there is nearly any difference at all between the original HL1 and this one. It's only recommended for people who haven't played HL1 before. This was also included in the Collectors edition so I've tried it a long time ago.

I too asked that question a while back. I understand all chapters unlocked, but why the save games? You can start a new chapter at both of the save points and the saves sometimes load for no reason when you die.

Getting a "Node graph out of date" but only on backgrounds (when the game is started)... Strange, anyone else with same problem?

edit: i now see that valve forgot (?) to include 3 .ain files in the gfc so everyone should have this error on 3 backgrounds... is there a way to fix it?

Odd. I never got it using the Vengeance emu 2.01 and I played through the whole game. I do however get it using ppatcher to play through steam.

Are you talking about HLS? There is no SteamEmu2.01 for HLS, the SteamEmu2.50 is included with the release...

Hi, I need some help!

2. Run hlsinstall.exe and HL1 Source will automatically install.

So, when I'm clicking on it, a DOS windows is coming up, but suddenly closing... And there is no text (like installing, or something else)...

So the installer is corrupt, or what else???

THX for help!

Can anyone tell me one answer to the following question.

I "presume" the DVD release of HL2 from vengeance is the "best", or should I just grab the collectors edition released a tad later ? (If the collectors edition already includes this HL1 source then what's the point over downloading the vengeance release and then this release ?

In other words, is there any advantage over having "vengeance dvd release + this release" over the "collectors edition release" ?

Tnx

@ Csepi
Try to open Command Prompt and execute the hlinstall.exe from there, you will be able to see the error you get...

@ -DJK-
I guess there is no major difference in these two releases (you can play both of them online too), but I still recommend VNG... Why, well it uses GCF's so you don't have 30000 files fragmenting your hard drive (and wasting up slack space), sometimes using PVN version I get Node graph out of date wich is not a bug but it's very annoying...

Is this HL:S release a standalone? Or do I have to have HL2 installed in order to run this?
The nfo says ADDON, so I think HL2 must be installed, since I've tried to install just this release but, when you launch the exe, a DOS prompt just shows up and immediately disappears.
Has anyone managed to run this without installing HL2?

You cannot run this without HL2 and Source engine GCF's, after all the game uses source engine (some parts of it actually Wink ).
I was expecting total conversion to source engine but was dissapointed a little.. Still, it's nice to remember and replay the Best game od 99 Smile

Half-Life came out in 1998, actually. I remember because it was directly competing with Thief: The Dark Project for my attention Smile

This happens if you install just Steam, without Half-Life 2.

I noticed the NODE OUT OF GRAPH error with this release.
Tried to use one of the many fixes available around for this kind of error in HL2, and the message disappears. So if you get the error, try to use the fix, or simply add:

ai_norebuildgraph 1

to the file config.cfg, located in the cfg directory.

"Node graph out of date. Rebuilding..." message only appears when the game starts, in the main menu on some backgrounds, right? It's not a big deal, but it's annoying.. I tried to add the command you mentioned in the autoexec.cfg yesterday but it didn't work, don't know how i missed to add it in config.cfg.. Anyway, thanx fot the fix...
