I have seen this type of software before with games and demo's but not sure what it is called?

I am looking for an application where I can build a small EXE where a user could download, which in turn when they run it would download one or more files.

Looking for an application or even a website with information on how to do something like this...

Thanxs...

I'll have to check out WGet but it does looks and sound something that I can use...

I'm doing this for work and what I want to do is have a customer download a single file, small in size and when they run it. That file will connect to our website and starts downloading files that I have set up. This will allow customers to download multiple files without having to click on each file one by one.

I do see download managers also have resume downloading if the connection drops so having that would be a plus...

is there an actual reason for this?
i would just make a large installer that had everything in it

there are a few services that turn torrent files into automatic downloaders, such as this; http://torrent2exe.com/
i haven't used it though so i have no experience with it, but it's just a plain torrent downloader
i guess you could script an installer around it (or wget) that would first extract the downloader, download your files and then launch the downloaded files.. but your mileage might vary

The reason why I am asking about this is because I work for a software company. I don't want to give the name of the company because I might get attacked. The software we sell is sold in a bundle which contains 2 or more pieces of software and I want to set it up so a customer can download the bundle without using .rar and .zip and they don't have to download a huge file all at once.

Like I mentioned before that games and demos use it. I take it that STEAM uses it. You buy a game and they send you a small .EXE file and when you run it, it connects to their servers and begins downloading the game and lets you know how long it will take.

If you want to go hardcore, take a loot at InstallShield and InstallAware. They very customizable install system builders, but there is a small learning curve and trial & error involved. There are some alternatives, but none give you as much power of customization as these two. Smile
What more, if you work for a moderately sizable corporation, there should be no problem licensing on of the above technologies. Of course, make sure to try the "demo" version first. Wink
