ATI 5770 1GB... cheap, DX11, eyefinity... http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/Components,1/Graphics-Cards,4/

That would be my pick (and should be my future card, but how things are standing with my parents that's not going to happen... -.-)

Yep Smile

I recommend this one: http://tweakers.net/pricewatch/248878/sapphire-hd5770-1gb-gddr5-pcie-vapor-x.html

Quiet, cool, fast and pretty cheap. 100 extra will get you a 5850, don't know what your budget is?

In any case, NVIDIA doesn't have any competition, not at these pricepoints Smile

Oke thanks...

Budget is horrible low at the moment but i have to build a new computer for somebody else and i want to swap my videocard GT220 with his videocard. It will be a business system so a 220 is enough and that will be my commision Wink

My rig is currently a E6600 duo @ 3Ghz and with 4 gb ram and i think i have more need of a new Card then a new platform.

What's the most you want to spend?
HD5770 is pretty good for the cash.
Nvidia are dropping the GTX460 on the 12th this month for not alot more ($200 aparently)
Rumours have it alot faster than a HD5770 but that remains to be seen.

Either way with a change in the mid range market only days away, you should buy after the release.
Would also help if you put a figure on the max you want to spend here. and the resolution you use for gaming.

You should wait for the 460 to be released indeed, as that should be NVIDIA's counterpart in terms of performance.

Slizza's arguments are a bit dodgy though. Not even the specs have been announced yet, nor has the MSRP. Considering it's supposed to be a gimped GTX 465 (less shaders and less texture units), it's unlikely that it'll be a lot faster than the 5770, since the 465 is 10% faster than the latter at best. No way of knowing whether it's worth the extra €30 until the 12th Smile

Edit: your GT220 is indeed the weak point in your system btw, terrible graphics chip

Lol... the only budget i have is that it won't get noticed that easily Wink

And the GT220... i know.. it isnt good at all.. but still it could handle most games with high graphics on 1024x768 .. Smile

Well combined with something like a 5770 you'll be fine all the way up to 1920x1080 Smile

What resolution is your monitor capable of?

I'll assume that 40" LCD is a full-HD device, so 1920x1080 it is! Smile

If you can hold out for a bit, just wait until July 12th when NVIDIA unveil the GTX 460. I personally doubt it'll really beat a 5770, but it doesn't hurt to wait a week to find out Wink

And if we ever get past these goddamn console ports, making the 5770/460 struggle, you can always stick in a second one at an even lower price by that time!

Exactly. With a new videocard (like the 5770 for example) you will be able to play flawlessy all the released games. I'm talking by experience, since I own an old e6600@3Ghz with a 4870 (1GB), and unless you don't play at insanely high resolutions and/or using 32xAA, you won't have any problem in terms of performance.
As for the yet-to-be-released games, the keyword is "console port": games like Mafia 2, The Witcher 2, DeusEx3, Mass Effect 3, Crysis 2 etc. will all have console roots, which probably means a better optimization at the cost of an equally probable reduction of the overall quality. And paradoxally this is a good thing for those who own an old rig Laughing *

*j/k, it's absolutely NOT a good thing!

If all goes well this is one I'm getting:

The reviews (although scarce) says that the card is really good. The only downfall is that you practically don't get anything besides driver CD and manual :\

Crossfire cable, dvi-vga adapters, 6-pin connector... look at the bundle that XFX, or Sapphire offer and you'll see what I'm thinking Wink Not that it matter, I have LCD with DVI already, and new power supply have the 6-pin connector, plus I'm not gonna use crossfire grinhurt so... that+price is the reason I'm considering this one Very Happy

I've never heard of VTX3D as a brand. I've stuck with Powercolor for all my ATI cards.

It's the same as Powercolor, but for different regions of the world; both are owned by TUL. Wink

Yeah, at first I was: no cables?! But then I thought to myself: do I really need that? I plan on buying mid range pc: no extra cards (so no need for crosfire), I already have DVI-DVI cable, and Corsair 450VX has one 6 pin connector (I know because I bought that for my friend too, and his 4850 has one 6 pin connector)...

What matters to me is that it'll be able to play games at decent settings on 1680x1050 res, and that I'll be able to watch 720p movies at last grinhurt

Is it worth spending €55 on a HD5770 when I currently have a HD4580? I don't play games much really and the HD4850 is satisfactory, but selling my HD4850 + €55 seems like a decent deal.

@Mister_s
Not really, if you only use the card for browsing and video playback (DXVA), then there is no point, because whatever the 5770 can play, so can a 4580.

@dingo_d
Yep, I manage to play 1080p videos without any problem on my laptop's Core 2 Duo T5500 1.66MHz (no video acceleration from the GPU). I was surprised also. Wink You sure you are not in the same boat now (OK CPU but codecs messing up performance)?

Like Leo said, not really. For gaming it might be worth it though, the 5770 is marginally faster than a 4870, with one added benefit: DX11. Still not used a lot, but once it is it should give you more performance than under DX9/10 when tessellation is disabled Smile
