2033 is one of the best 3D vision games and that good in fact, I doubt there'll be any improvement - I assume it's just more of the same in 2034 but they are just using the game to promote it and pretending it's almost like a new addition. Just advertising and nothing more.

So, this 3D thing is gonna be busting my balls for a long time ?
I want improved gfx+technology in future games, not pseudo 3D bullshit, to get me to pay up for special hardware.

The only properly viable 3D technology that I'm willing to invest in is the parallax 3D where you don't need to wear headache inducing goggles. But monitors/screens with that tech for home use is still a year or more away. The new Nintendo hand-held is the exception though. I'd love to check one out just to see how well the 3D works.

Quote: |
The absence of polish, Bilson assured, won't be an issue for Metro 2034, the in-development sequel. "The new one doesn't have any of those issues," Bilson said. "I green-lit the sequel before [the first] one shipped, because I know what [4A Games is] capable of -- I knew how cool it was."
Bilson added that the sequel would address "some of the gameplay issues" that were raised about the first game, while retaining "some awesome technology, great art, [the] interesting world -- all the freshness" of Metro 2033. "I would say it's gonna have some better, more familiar shooting mechanics in it," he clarified. "And I would also say it's going to have a first-class marketing campaign that kicks off at E3." |
Gunplay felt really meh, so it's good news that they will improve it. However I wouldn't like it to be turned into a mindless console shooter.

"more familiar shooting mechanics in it" = Call of Duty ?

Yeah, not sure that's a good thing. Shooting mechanics could certainly be improved in Metro2034, but if it's a Call of Duty-style improvement they can just as well keep it as it is, as far as I'm concerned.
I'd like to see a more open-ended or hub-like gameplay though. Should be fit in nicely with the whole 'subway' thing which could be used to travel back and forth between the hubs.

If its the kind of technology that makes people sick like worthless "Post Processing" then I will pass. There is no need for that blur crap in anything other then maybe a race car game.

You and I both, matey! Sure the game crippled most PCs if you tried to run with highest settings, but even on medium it was absolutely gorgeous and had magnificent atmosphere. I thoroughly enjoyed my playthrough.

Metro didn't impress me that much , probably because I expected it to provide a slightly less linear experience than how it actually did. It was a good and atmospheric FPS, but Stalker outclasses it by far in my book

I've read several chapters of a good-quality fan translations. It's ok for fans of post-apocalyptic Fallout / Stalker stuff but it's obvious that it is written by a non-professional writer. Cheesy dialogs, pretty generic and cliched plot and action. But what people like is the universe, the factions, it's quite interesting and thought-through. And of course it adds a lot if you live in Moscow and you see all those subway stations every day. That's a major cause of the popularity of the book series in Russia.
Today I didn't even need to use my AK. I gotta say it was a good day. (c) - Ice Cube

3D is kinda derp but im pretty damn excited for the sequel. The first game was one of the most immersive experiences I've played in awhile.
I did actually read through the book, and at some points it was pretty cheesy, but I'm not so sure how much of that was the author's fault, or the fact that the translation itself was spotty at best. all in all, it was a thoroughly enjoyable read for me.

whats wrong guys? why is 3d sooo bad?
you will get (hopefully) a good game +3d options for people who own 3d monitors.
only because it got some extra 3d options doesnt mean the game will be bad or "derped", youre not forced to play it in 3d.
for me its the same like in theaters.
avatar was good but not because of the 3d. it was still fun to watch it in 3d.

Agreed. Not to mention that Metro 2033 was a 3D game in the first place.

@ juniR: 3D in Metro is pretty pathetic actually, try Just Cause 2, that's the only title where I felt it worked.

Because there are barely 5 monitors that do 3D, of which all but 2 only work with NVIDIA cards because they have the 3D Vision crap inside. If you lurk on any tech forum, you'll notice there are more people fiddling with NVIDIA's Surround and ATI's Eyefinity than with 3D. On top of that, so far it's been pretty crap in games apart from JC2 as mentioned before, and I'm pretty sure this will be NVIDIA 3D Vision, not normal 3D which works with any 3D monitor or TV.
Not sure about this, the first one was a pretty generic shooter to me. It looked good, but that's about it for me :E
