Basically, I'm done with Warcraft 3, and I'm curious as to what games that have potential of being a long lasting RTS game?

Dawn of War is the best non-WC3 RTS for MP, even though it is a bit imbalanced.

Sure it aint an RTS, but i gotta recommend Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic to as many peeps as i can, since that is the best game of all time in my opinion, never ever grows old, never!!

I did make a post in this thread, not sure where it went though.

Earth 2150 comes out in a couple of months, maybe try that?

But... it's a Dutch game! Dutch games, with the sole exception of Killzone, inherently can't be good!

If it is, it'd result in the universe imploding. That, or me just fainting.

Yeah. Age of Wonders - Shadow Magic was a great, great game (and a very long one too). I hope they work on a sequel. Since Triumph Studios finshed Shadow Magic they didn't say a word about their next project.

Damm, one of the reasons i bought a new pc, in feb 2004!!. It's set for first q 2006 now (probably this will be 2007 or later). No publisher yet. Think this will be a small release in russia, and will come to the west in 2008 or something. Doubt it will be any good, since codemasters dropped it.

I know what you mean, but the Age of Wonders-series and Jazz Jackrabbit-series are the best Dutch games that have been made. Age of Wonders 2 and the stand-alone expansion were the games that HoMM4 and expansions should have been.

well firstly shadow magic is not an rts, it is turn based. secondly it is a great game many hours spent hotseating with friends same with homm but 4 was a disapointmant too much emphasis on graphics though they werent even that great (homm5 is coming out ...yay).

the one i'm looking forward to is something called "Left Behind" it is basically an rts using heaven and hellish units Twisted Evil cool:)

I just looked up that Left Behind: Eternal Forces and there isn't much info on it, but the series it comes from was solid. I hope it has some sort of strength to it.

C&C: Tiberian Twilight
I was like the only guy that loved TIberian Sun, especially with the expansion Aftermath, or whatever it was called, FUCK it owned with all that blue tiberium and the veins and hte random maps and omfg. it owned ok?! Very Happy It had such a dark mystifying aura to it, i loved it. LOVED IT!!

C&C: Tiberian Dawn started out kinda realistic, a comet crashes, some odd crystal plants, toxic etc..
then C&C: Tiberian sun, more strange shit happening, mutations, more of those vicerois or what the fuck they were called, odd shit, sightings of blue tiberium etc etc. Interesting shit happening.
Then the expansion pack, veins, odder stuff, darker, more like "shit this is the end of the planet" type of stuff, me like alot.
I hope C&C: Tiberian Twilight will be daaaark, i mean like.. just dark in its aura, like the world is already lost like in Aftermath, as in there is just one more thing to do, survive. omfg its gonna be so fucking awesome. sigh, next E3? dont think so but i hope so.

Thats why i loved the tiberium games, the alien plants, pumping out spores in the air, which then grew more crystals, and shit.. I LOVE ALIEN VEGITATION, its a strange thing to say but wtf.
I was like in heaven, i had an orgasm when i saw the spores and alien weed and shit in War of The Worlds (didnt read the book), i was like OMFG ALIEN VEGITATION TIBERIUM OMG YES GENIOUSES!!
Then it all died and blam movie over, crap.
Imagine how cool it would have been if those plants were a danger, like in the tiberium games, shit, it could have been a trilogy. SIGH!!

i'm also in the minority of prefering the futuristic C&Cs to the cold war ones (Red Alerts). i much prefer the look and feel of the tiberium games, with the glowing landscapes and future technology. Red Alert was fantastic, and a welcome addition to the storyline, but with the next game being RA3 that will mean they've made 3 prequels and only 1 sequel!

(and btw the Tiberian Sun expansion is Firestorm. Aftermath is one of the original Red Alert expansion packs, the other being Counterstrike)

i've played a lot of RTS games and the ones i'd recommend would definitely be any of the C&C games (you can pick up the original, plus Red Alert and all the expansions for them in the Worldwide Warfare pack, well worth the money, then there's Tiberian Sun + Firestorm ex., Red Alert 2 + Yuri's Revenge ex. and Generals, not a proper C&C game really but well worth playing nonetheless).

added to that are the first 2 Warcrafts, Starcraft, the Total War series (Medieval, Shogun and Rome), Age of Empires and Mythology, Dawn of War and Lord of the Rings - Battle for Middle Earth

but to get to the title of the thread - those on the horizon, i'm not really aware of any at the moment apart from Age of Empires III and the expansion to Dawn of War. both of which look very good, and different enough to warrant getting both

Earth 2160

I just started for the first time HomeWorld 2 and Ground COntrol 2 they are really good !

a change from C&C games of which I am a solid fan.

Rome Total War is super, but I jut cannot play old history games, I like either modern or future sci-fi.

Well, Red Alert has nothing to do with the Tiberium games, just so you know, the Red Alert games are NOT prequels to Tiberian Dawn, its just using the Command & Conquer tag, just as Generals.
Fuck i want starcraft 2, oh maaan Sad

I cant believe no one have mentioned 1700 A.D aka Anno 3 Shocked
It's not out untill 2006, but still, it's worth mentioning. Smile
1503 A.D (Anno 2) was awesome, so as long as they dont fuck something up this will kick some serious ass.
