Even with piracy, as long as we can create products which can attract attention from many consumers and which can greatly entertain them, that software can make it to the number one position of the hit software sales chart.

It's funny how console companies will never blame piracy, because that would make their consoles look bad and probably distance developers and publishers from their platform, but the PC platform which isn't owned by anyone will always be blamed for poor sales due to piracy, no matter the quality of the games. Rolling Eyes

I mean from what I've heard the DS is the most pirated platform of this gen, I think? Laughing

Too bad Nitendo has been making the same games for almost 2 decades now.
Would be nice to see some innovation from them.
But anyway, it's nice that a big dev/publisher acknowledges this.

Yes, the DS is the most pirated.

But what they say is true. If the game is good, despite piracy, it will still sell well. What, piracy just came to be in the last 3 years? Rolling Eyes There has always been piracy, and still PC gaming used to be profitable (and still is where matters). But as long as they keep throwing their shitty ports (and then even don't support them Rolling Eyes) then PC games will not sell well. Who in their fucking mind would purchase a game 6-9 months after the console version was released? They treat PC gamers as fifth-rate citizens, then whine their shit don't sell. Cry me a fucking river and fuck off, keep your console bullshit on the console. Oh no, the super-linear "follow the white light" 5hr Alan Wake didn't come to PC, oh noooo. Rolling Eyes

Developers and publishers will also never admit to there being piracy on a certain platform, namely the Xbox 360 from the start of its lifetime, because they open themselves to some of the toughest legal departments (MS and Sony) and also can get issues with publishing games, patches and DLC.

True. I think the most I've heard of them is Crytek's Yerli comment "On the 360, I'm not so sure about that" when Kotaku told him "isn't it better that on the consoles they won't steal your games as much".

remind me of this, about Limbo "no PC version":
Quote:
According to producer Mads Wibroe, part of their decision not to release for the Windows platform, was to avoid issues with software piracy, something they could control on the Xbox 360.

Whenever they cry piracy and go for the 360 it's about them getting money from M$ to make it exclusive and nothing else.

They'd have a point if it was PS3 exclusive before the jailbreak.

Piracy certainly has been around as long as software has, but it hasn't been easy as fuck until fairly recently. Any idjit who knows how to open ports on his firewall can go to a torrent tracker and DL anything he wants.

There have been tons of games that are good and haven't sold well. I would blame that more on poor marketing, though who knows, people still pirate games that are worth buying and never buy them. I've done it and everyone on here has done it I suspect.

Pirating games was much, much easier 6-7 years ago. You could just go to some site and leech, no need to bitch around with torrents or usenet. I remember downloading rips from regular, easy to reach websites, ten yers ago. Any moron who was able to type was smart enough to leech. There was also the flourishing trade in compilation CDs and DVDs. For ten bucks you'd get a shitload of rips on one DVD. I doubt piracy is higher now.

Hm, I remember hammering stupid FTPs trying to get in so I could leech as much as I could and leave my computer overnight and max my 1 megabit connection out. Usually i'd get kicked or my router would reset Razz

Lets be honest, with regards to Nintendo Wii and game sales, underneath it all and beyond the now common controller type and with holding some of the better games like Mario galaxy, Zelda etc, most games on the Nintendo Wii are crap, they look crap they play crap and they are crap and forgive I am wrong but wouldnt that contribute to weak game sales.

The Nintendo Wii has got to be the worst Nintendo console and games maching made by this company, its a Cube with a novelty controller.

I remember typing off the code from a magazine page, then it wouldn't compile and I'd have to hunt down the typo I usually made. Then when I turned the power off the game was gone again and I had to start over.
