Description:
Quote: |
The Guild 2 awakes the 14th century to a new life. In a hyper-realistic, medieval world only the player decides the destiny of centuries in his "own" dynasty and takes part in historical and societal events. At medieval scenes all over Europe, which come to life through an imposing 3D graphics, each player choses his own personal way of playing the game. Whether a career in a profession, politics or private enterprise - all doors are open - the player only has to enter!
Europe, 1400 A.D. - The last crusade, which started 6 years before,
ended in a horrible defeat when the crusaders failed to conquer Nikopolis before being reached by the armies of osmans and serbs. The dream of conquering Jerusalem is forgotten, and European authorities are well aware that over the coming centuries, they will be submerged into defending themselves against the osman forces, which have several outposts in
eastern Europe. The roman-catholic church is in a state of devestating
dispute and intrigue, and uprisings are clearly just around the corner.
Meanwhile, the old barriers between citizens and noblemen are crumbling. With dignity, good luck and wealth, even merchants and craftsmen are able to join the realms of power. A time has come where kings and leaders
depend on the gold of businessmen, and they are willing to pay the price...
This is the setting you will be faced with as you enter the medieval world in your struggle to build your very own dynasty!

I loved the first part. If ya play the first part now with all fixes it is an awesome trading/producing game with some kind of sims style. "Lets set the mayors house on fire!!!" If you had not enough room to build, just grab the cannontower of your castle and bombard your hometown.

I really enjoyed the first game, but put it to one side because of all the bugs. Seems to be a characteristic with JoWood games, hope this one comes out in a good state.

I still consider it one of the best strategy/citysimgames of all time.

if you didn't try Europa 1400 - The Guild, it's really recommended!
I still play it more than any other game out there, and it's what - five yrs old?
Awesome feel in the game.

where is that review?
found it:
"Overall:
Fans of the original will appreciate the game for what it is. However, unless you’re a patient person, and can overlook the game’s flaws, there isn’t much enjoyment."
Sounds like those of us who DID enjoy the first game still can enjoy this one, eh?

I agree with that review, the game seems quite bugged and perhaps even rushed.
Sometimes when your going about your merry business BOOM you in a duel with a competitor...what?! whats going on?
And one time I was sitting peacefully deciding what I should better myself in, suddenly theres a sequence about me getting thrown in jail, WHAT?! a frustrating game to say the least, but I hear they're already working on a patch to fix these issues, if they're fixed which they will be the game is quite enjoyable, just not when you feel the game plays you and not the other way around.
Back to playing some more.

Had a feeling it would be the same for this one. Hope the patch sorts it out.

Playing it in multiplayer is a laugh though, none of this random shit only what your human opponent does and you will get a message about that beforehand, also it's great fun to get in the way of each others businesses as deviously as possible, until the patch comes this is where the game will shine and shine it shall all through the weekend

aw, don't tell me it's crap!
Why can't developers learn that a delayed inished game is BETTER than a rushed, buggy game?
We don't mind if it's released a week or two later than the set release date, do we?
As long as it's playable and enjoyable from scratch, at least I don't mind waiting for awhile...

This is typical of Jowood. They release nothing but buggy crap. There is exactly ONE game that they publish that is worth purchasing, and that's the Gothic series.
The developers who made the first Guild game left it in a bug ridden shambles. They released it virtually unplayable and didn't release a patch to make at least half of the game playable for over a year. Even with the final beta patch it's still bugged to the high heavens.
Anyone who actually pays money for The Guild 2 is a moron. The more people spend money on Jowood crap, the longer Jowood will continue to pump it out. This goes for all developers. They only do it because they know they can get away with it and will make some fast cash. People bitch and moan that they spent hard earned money on a buggy mess, but then they buy the next buggy mess based on hype, and hype alone.
Stop the madness.

Indeed don't buy The Guild 2, show the industry it doesn't pay to think out of the box
The developers have been nice to update, even if it was with beta patches, also the first patch 1.1 was just completed and it fixes the bugs, the North American version will already have this patch's functionality.
It's not 4head who's arses it's jowood the publisher, I do not believe Jowood to be the publisher in US of Frikin' A.
It's the only game where you can guilliotinè your best friend and laugh about it

The best bug I saw was when I played the farmer. Just havesting on the field when the horse transport comes back from the market and drives right through the field and kills the main char.

Alright I started recieving some strange reboots when playing the game, they didn't occur when playing coh or fow, that was the final straw for me, I took it back to the shop as this was just too much to put up with to enjoy a game I paid money for.

Man you payed money for this You must be joking right |
I wish I was, but sadly I did pay money for it expecting a good game, but there was not much to see here, you'd be better of to play the gold version of the first one. It seems they spent all their money on graphics rendering algorithms so they had no money to do testing, sad really.
