I hope this is not the wrong forum for this....but I could not figure out which forum to post:

This is really weird. When I start my cpu up....I get pop ups. I have not even clicked on IE yet....I have a cable modem so I am always connected...but this has never happened before. It seems to have started after installing some Cannon camera software.

I even deleted all cookies, IE files...nothing works.

Another thing...when I do msconfig...there are like 20 new things that are clicked for start up. I unclicked all of them and restarted...but they still are all clicked. How do I delete those programs listed on the start up tap on msconfig?

this is really bumming me...any help? Please...

P.S. I ran Spybot, Adware, and Norton antivirus....

Nit

Learn what a "cpu" is. (Central Processing Unit)
Use "add and remove programs" instead of msconfig
Uninstall Spybot, Adaware, and All Norton software through "add and remove programs".
Install the latest spysweeper, updatet and run it.
Check Cannon's site/ forums for help.

1. Remove Norton because it's pure crap. I would also remove "Spybot search and destroy" and "Lavasoft Adaware". Use "Giant antispyware" and "Nod 32 antivirus" instead. Kaspersky is also ok.

2. Don't use Internet explorer. Use firefox instead.

3. Check the camera apps and see if there are any options to disable them to autostart.

So much for all the intelligent suggestions you've received.

Sounds to me like you got yourself infected with spyware. All those new startup programs were probably added by whatever infected you. It's most likely the cause of your popups not to mention having unwanted programs running.

Look if you have a file called system32.dll somewhere in your Windows folder and sub-folders. This file is a known spyware haven. As you found out unchecking programs using msconfig does nothing. System32.dll is one way they can get back on your system. Back up this file and then delete it. Only problem is that it might be 'in use'.

I would suggest doing a web search for some of the programs on your startup list in order to find a possible 'cure'. If you do have System32.dll do a search for that also to get more info on it. Spyware removal tools might have a hard time removing what you have. You might need to do it manually.

Good luck.
