So after waiting a month for the OCZ memories, finally yelled like crazy at the idiot Russian salesman today (who doesn't even speak Hebrew properly) and cancelled the order. Laughing

My question is, does anyone have experience with Corsair CMP6GX3M3A1600C7?
They are 3x2GB, 1600MHz CL7 7-8-7-20.

There are also slightly more expensive TR3X6G1600C7D, which are also 3x2GB, 1600MHz CL7 but timings are 7-7-7-20. But from what I read, they are not worth it.

The difference between the two would be insignificant. get the cheaper kit.

What is it with all the timings? How much is the difference between 9-9-9 and 8-8-8?

You may get a slightly better score in a particular benchmark that measures RAM latencies. Laughing

But it's the holy grail for overclockers, to always feel like you're sooo close to ultimate performance for the money. Nerd-version of chasing the dragon.

Timing is how fast (In milliseconds or something like that.) the instructions are sent, I don't fully remember what each stood for but lower is better and above 1333 Hz (Enthusiast class 1600 or 1800 - which I use myself though a older generation.) speeds are more noticeable if the timings are lower or "tighter" along with 1T or 2T "tick" or what it was called.
(1T being the better.)

Initially DDR3 had the disadvantage over DDR2 of cost and just timings but it's become a bit better with newer generation memory modules (Less power draw and better speeds and timings.) and costs are going down a bit. Smile
(New stuff like tripple channel via Intel i-series CPU's and motherboards plus removal of the traditional FSB also helps a lot and can also aid with overclocking further.)

It's the number of clock ticks it takes to have any requested data available on the output pins. Was typing this out and then I remembered we have that wonderful site called Wikipedia, which has a clear enough explanation on the whole thing: tada!

Basically, lower CAS latency means lower access times to whatever is stored in the RAM - but DDR3-1333 with a CL of 9 is still faster than DDR2-800 at CL 6 because it's dependent on clockspeed Smile

And it indeed doesn't have any noticeable effect in games Wink
