I have just dismantled my first 360. The drive is hooked up to a sata port on my mobo but i am unsure on how to proceed further because i am getting conflicting advice on how to flash the Hitachi GDR-3120L properly.

Some are suggesting that i should use the SLAX method to put the drive into Mode B while others are saying that it's not necessary and that Jungle Flasher does all the work for you automatically. I've also seen something mentioned about some audio cd trick but i have no idea what that's supposed to do.

This would be my first flashing of a 360 drive. I just want to be sure that i do it correctly because i hear that this particular drive is prone to bricking.

I'd appreciate it if somebody that has experience with this drive could provide me with a simple step by step guide on how to flash it.

Thank you.

What revision do you have? Also, do you have the JungleFlasher PDF tutorial? It explains EVERYTHING in great detail. I would highly recommend it. You can find it on the JF website.

Those are easy to do and I am pretty sure JungleFlasher can handle it. I would just recommend you take a look at their PDF tutorial:

I did read it. For some reason the drive is not being detected by Jungle Flasher.
I tried several sata ports on my motherboard but it didn't make a difference.

Port IO is greyed out by the way. From what i understand there's a driver issue with the x64 bit version of windows. I am using Windows 7 x64.

You have to press F8 before the Windows Loading logo to gain access to the boot menu and then select the option to boot without driver signature checking, or something like that. Then Port IO will work. However, some SATA mobo's won't work in the first place so you will need a VIA card. This is what I use:

I already did but it's still not being detected nor will Port IO work.
Oh, well. I guess it's a chipset issue then. I'll have to ask a friend to flash it for me instead.
I don't feel like dual booting into Win XP.

Problem solved. It's definitely a chipset compatibility issue.
I replaced the abit board on my old system with a Gigabyte that i was just about to sell. It recognized the drive immediately and i flashed it without any issues.

Which software is the most suitable for burning 360 games?

I am asking because i am having issues with imgburn. I am using Verbatim dual layer discs. I've patched the .iso with agbx360. I've selected the .dvd file created by agbx360, put the layerbreak on 1913760 like suggested by numerous sources and write speed is at 2.4x. A few percent into burning, i run into an i/o error in imgburn. I usually use Nero to burn all of my stuff but i don't have it currently installed on this new system that i recently put together.

imgburn is pretty much universally suggested for x360 burning with no problems i know of
sounds more like a drive issue
how old is the drive?

It's an NEC 3550a. Yes, i have the latest firmware installed.

I know it is but this isn't the first time that i have run into issues with imgburn.
I usually use Nero or CloneCD to burn all of my stuff and they never gave me any problems.
I just haven't had the time to "acquire" either one since i just recently installed Win7.
