I got myself a russian version and it has been activated by the cd key shop.
So I finished the pre load, created the steam_appid.txt and entered 28050 in there and saved it in the game folder (steam/steamapps/common/deus ex - human revolution/)
I got an dxhr.exe but starting that just says that the steam_api.dll is broken

I removed all changes I did and suddenly steam said, updating deus ex finished and I have now my very own dxhr.exe <3 but it has no icon
|

Blue "windows" exe icon?
You have the encrypted version again, it re-downloaded.
(So the exe isn't "valid")
You need to use the VPN/Proxy "hack" to verify the cache (Or re-verify.) this will download DXHR.exe (CEG so it will update and it'll change when you first launch it.)
After that start the exe while still VPN connected (Don't go via Steam.) and it'll update rather quickly and launch the game, after that disconnect the VPN and from now on start the exe directly, do NOT start via Steam (It should not do anything but it might re-encrypt the data until tomorrow when the release date happens, here in Sweden no doubt that will be tomorrow night unless this is one of the rare titles taking advantage of European timezones, haha.)

Why do you need a russian VPN? I bought the game from a russian retail store and used a USA VPN to activate early.

You can activate russian keys from US IP's???
