I've been playing this gem almost non-stop, can't believe i hadn't played this before. It's so funny. This and Grim Fandango are two of the finest adventures i've played in a long time. A nice break from all the other fps's out there.

I had some questions;

1. How long is this game?

2. How difficult are the puzzles throughout the game (i've just landed on the 2nd island btw)

3. Is there any way to increase screen resolution beyond 640 by 480 for this game?

I had to use a walkthrough several times... some of the puzzles are just bizzare, but they're so damn funny you could spend days trying to figure them out yourself without getting tired!

Man this monkey island series is awesome.
The game is pretty long if you don't use a walkthrough and the finale puzzles are challenging as hell! This monkey-see-monkey do shit is a pain!

yeah MI4 had some insane puzzles.
people say it sucked but i personally loved it, next to Grim it's my favorite adventure game.
the final puzzles with the monkeys are so crazy, you'll love it.
i wish i hadn't played it so much already, or i'd play it again, heh.

yea, monkey island 2 was the best, had the best puzzles and funniest dialogue. curse of monkey island is best graphically with the best animations. i dont like the look and controls on number 4 although in grim fandango they worked fine. i think its coz the size of the screen on MI4 is much bigger and stuff, i do prefer point and click 2D adventure games though such as runaway a road adventure and broken sword 1 +2 (although 3 was better and alright except it 2 places where the controls failed u).

First Monkey Island kicked ass, the vegetarian cannibals, it was simply a masterpiece.
The second game was almost as good except one flaw, no insult swordfighting.
The third game didnt match the previous games but was very funny and the whole sea battle part was very entertaining.
The fourth is the weakest game in the series, it felt a bit different from the previous games plus it was developed for the consoles with no mouse support. And it was too long, used walkthrough halfway just to finish it.

I really tried to like Runaway, and there's nothing horribly wrong with it, but while I could not put Monkey Island down until I finished it, I found Runaway extremely tedious - some of it caused by the unlikeable characters which grated on my nerves (those retarted drag queens nearly made me snap the CD's in half), or the absolutley insane puzzles that made no sense. Also, the developers intenionally made you scour the screen for extremely tiny and\or hidden items, which made the game more of a chore than a pleasure.

On the upside, the graphics are gorgeous and the locations are very well designed and pretty. I would say Syberia is a much better recent adventure game.

Monkey Island 4 had some crummy controls because it was made to complement playstation 2 (considering it was co-released on there).

adventure game.

there was 2 really bastard puzzles with this game. the 1st was when u had to check the bag twice to unlock a wig and somethin else i cant rememebr. and that damn key outside the hut. rgr that was a pain.

monkey island 4 was too long? man how can a game be too long? reptative yes but not long. i found te puzzles on that too basic. sure they were hard but didnt really require skill. DOTT is such a kickass game u can complete that game in less than 10mins if u do it really well Razz.

It's a shame that game developpers think that there is no market for adventure games anymore...I think if you develop a nice adventure game you're the only one who enters the adventure-game market and therefore even if it's a small market, it can be a great succes! Pendulo studios which made Runaway: A road adventure must have noticed this and since they are already busy on a sequel, part 1 must have made enough money!!
So is Runaway 2 the only decent adventure game in production or are there more developpers who're on an adventure to produce a nice adventure game?

The Longest Journey 2 is in development by Funcom and will be released late 2005.

Ahhh ... Monkey Island ... These games rocked. Well, at least Parts 1-3, 4 was a bit annoying with the ridiculous controls. And the gfx just didn't fit. But it was an OK game. Too bad they did it in 3D, there are games which just work and feel better in 2D. (Anyone remember the fake 3D hardware setup menu in #3? Smile)

Why do people complain that the gfx on Monkey 4 didn't fit? I thought the 3D captured the essence of the Monkey Island series perfectly!

i agree, the atmosphere is so nice in the 3D setting.
altho controls weren't "all that", the game itself was awesome imo.
