MOUNT&BLADE: With Fire and Sword

Hello everyone! I'm from Poland and I'd like to tell you about a new game "Mount&Blade: With Fire and Sword" which is made by your western brothers: russian studio Snowberry Connection, ukrainian Sich Studio and turkish developer TaleWorlds Entertainment (creator of original).

The story is about sevententh century Poland. You can see there scenes from Henryk Sienkiewicz's books (Potop, Ogniem i Mieczem eng. Deluge, With fire and sword) and films made by Jerzy Hoffman.

Game transmits us on fields of western Europe, where main powers: strong but falling down Republic of Both Nations (Poland-Lithuania), growing in strenght Russia, modern and craving for conquests Sweden, wild Ukraine and enemy of christian Europe: Crimean Khanate.

There's well imaged fields of Western Europe. Main aspects of game are: opened world, unique system of battle with white weapons and firearms , interesting model of horse riding and rich reference to history of Poland and arts of Sienkiewicz. During a gameplay we meet lots of freelance characters known from famous books and films. There appear also characteristic weapons and units (eg. Polish Winged Hussars).

There are some trailers and screens from a game. Enjoy!

There was some brief discussion in another M&B thread or the "Warbands" version of it, though this is a eastern-European title only as far as I know with no release planned worldwide unless a fan-translation is made and of course it uses a stronger copy protection which would need to be bypassed first.

I suppose there's also many mods for the original game which competes a bit with what's offered here, guns, new armor, new factions and total revamps (Warhammer, LOTR and others plus balance mods and what not.) are already available plus graphical improvements to textures and such.
(Not that this looks bad or anything.)

EDIT: Unsure what you mean about other links and sites, if it's news sites then www.shacknews.com www.kotaku.com www.gamershell.com and others are quite good though I do not know that many forums like this one if that's what you were asking about.

If they didn't radically change the way mods work in that version (and why should they), then it shouldn't be too hard to upload the module folder somewhere.

Settings and some menu images, various tutorial dialogue, map and some of the factions, funny to see Sweden there though they seem pretty minor. Very Happy

It's Mount & Blade and it plays similar to the previous titles yet it's a little bit modernized now but I wouldn't say firearms or bombs are all that unbalanced, for one they're very slow and cumbersome and for another they're extremely expensive and require a lot from both the player and game character to use effectively.

Map isn't all that different and it's easy to familiarize one self with the new content if one has played any of the previous M&B games, as usual mods are also possible and it seems the game might see a lot of activity there, visuals should be fairly easy to update for example but the gameplay is more important and I find it looks pretty OK anyway, good music and sound as usual and controls are fairly intuitive as well, combat I haven't seen much of but it seems similar to the previous titles but with the slightly more modern setting. I think that this one is a stand-alone game.

Will try this too, but what this thread did is remind me of Warband and to check for mods for it again. This convinced me to install Warband again.

It's the continuation of Warband as far as I understood it Prudislav, technically porting over Warband itself should actually be doable (And then mods for it.) based on the mod info in the readme and similar details, full MP and also has custom battle scenarios now, haven't tried either though. Smile

Texture replacers and other more basic mods might already work as-is (But the game does use a lot of new art assets so it likely has limited effect aside from maybe vegetation and general terrain or the sky and such.) but of course any script modification and utility needs to be updated for this game and of course the new version of the game-engine.

I'm pretty sure Smikis is talking from a gameplay standpoint.

In which case I do agree with him. Swords > Muskets.

I'm impressed, the game actually feels right. Didn't play much but there are various improvements to the whole game, not just the addition of firearms (which I find pretty good implemented). Despite being a medieval guy myself, I really like this one.

Its still historic though in covering that period when knights and castles were nearing their end and firearms were in their infancy(matchlocks, etc)

I used to play a lot of board games like Sword & Shield and Musket & Pike and lets not forget the Cry Havoc board games. The M&B series has done those games justice.

As far as i've seen, so far its very realisticly implented, its the typical (for that period) fire 1 shot and then go into melee (since your guns take way too long too reload).
