Hey all
I have been using cracked releases ever since I was old enough to turn on my amiga. The current scene however we see more and more clones taking over.
In the past I avoided clones for the simple reason I want to burn my games (not just down, mount, play, delete). And my burner never actually fully worked on clone releases.
Today I put a game of 5/8 on a DVD in iso form together with the latest version of daemon tools.
So I was wondering on trying those "clones", but have a few questions:
- Can I just download a clone release, burn the iso on a DVD together with daemon tools and mount/play it from my DVD ? (no matter the brand/firmware of my DVD drive)
- Can I patch the games with the official patches once they are mounted ? and do I need a crack afterwards for the patch or does it still work "mounted". (I always heard you can patch your game on clones with official patches, but I want to be 100% sure this works before I start burning DVD's with clones.
- Is there any drawback on using clones over cracked releases (exept you have to play them using Daemon Tools).
Tnx

Yes.
(Deamon toos of course must be installed. Having it on the DVD doesn't do anything)

It still works.
A clone image (or propper burned clone disk) is identical to the original CD. The game can't tell the difference. It's the same as having the original disk in the drive.

Well, it has the same disadvantages as using an uncracked original.
You have to insert the disk when you play (unless you keep the image on your Harddisk).
Verifying the copy protection can sometimes take a long time. I had games that took more tham a minute to check the disk before starting.
Some copy-protections will prevent the game from running if you have ceratian software installed.
and some very agressive copy protections even use so much system resources that they decrease game performance.
Bottom line:
Using a clone is the same as using the original disc without crack
Same advantages, same disadvantages.

Tnx for the answers m8
Can you use a NoCD on a clone release or is this just "not-done" ?

Yes, a crack works just fine with a cloned release of the game. It's actually my preferred method of play, because I don't have to wait for a new cracked update when an official patch is released, but can use a no-cd if it's available. You can find the separate cracked EXE a number of places on IRC or at GameCopyWorld.

I usually download what comes first and in this case clones. When the crack release is out I just rip the crack out of it or I grab the crack only release then I just continue playing like normal but without a disc inserted/mounted.
