Enslaved: Odyssey to the West

  • Official Web Page: LINK
  • Developer: Ninja Theory
  • Publisher: Namco Bandai
  • Genre: Action/Adventure
  • Release date: US 05-Oct-2010 / 08-Oct-2010

  • Game Information:
    Quote:

  • More than 150 years in the future, the world has transformed into an unrecognizable state where all that remains are a dwindling human population and merciless robots left over from wars long past. In Enslaved, players take on the role of Monkey, a strong and brutish loner, and his AI partner Trip, a technologically savvy but sheltered young woman from a peaceful community. Both become captured by a mysterious slave ship, which are rumored to harvest people and take them out west never to return. As they each attempt to escape, Trip realizes quickly that Monkey, with his raw strength and power, is the only hope she has of making the perilous journey back home. She hacks into a slave headband to enslave Monkey and link them together – if she dies, he dies. Her journey has now become his.

  • Players must make sure both Monkey and Trip work together as they skillfully navigate through the world and survive against the dangerous enemy obstacles that lie in wait. Monkey will deftly wield his trusty staff weapon to attack and defend against enemies, using a combination of melee attacks, blocks and counters. He will also be able to perform spectacular takedown moves, allowing him to rip an enemy apart piece by piece, take its weapon for his own use or destroy it in one final blow.

  • A CINEMATIC MASTERPIECE - Featuring dramatic cutscenes co-directed by Andy Serkis, (Lord of the Rings, King Kong) who also plays the lead role of Monkey, portraying critical events that drive the story of Monkey and Trip.

  • STUNNING ENVIRONMENTS - Explore a beautiful, eerie world of war-ravaged cityscapes that have been reclaimed by nature and are fraught with danger at every turn.

  • TACTICAL GAMEPLAY - Think on your feet! Survey the environment, work together with Trip and choose your path to battle through the perilous environmental and deadly enemy obstacles that await.

  • ENGAGING STORYLINE - Play through an original story co-written by famed novelist and screenwriter, Alex Garland, (The Beach, 28 Days Later); Loosely inspired by the classic Chinese novel "Journey to the West," experience the evolving relationship between Monkey and Trip through their plight for survival.

  • DYNAMIC COMBAT SYSTEM - Attack and defend with agile prowess using a combination of melee attacks, blocks and intense takedowns which allow Monkey to overtake an enemy to steal its weapon for his own use, rip the enemy apart piece by piece or destroy it in one satisfying final blow.

  • Multiplayer: TBA

Played this for a bit at Gamescom. Had a nice feel to it.

It is definitely heavily inspired by Uncharted 2, but that isn't really a bad thing Wink Looking forward to this Smile

Played the 360 demo, looks awesome and indeed feels like U/U2, but lacks something... maybe violence and brutality? Or freedom/sandboxness? The demo felt kinda kiddyish and too linear like a generic movies-based beat'em'up (Wolverine, Spiderman etc).

I thought the production quality of the demo was fantastic; voice acting, animation and character graphics were all awesome. But to be honest I found the game-play lacking, the combat was unsatisfying (especially because you're against robots throughout) and the platform sections felt uninvolved and linear.

I just played the demo, pretty cool and they try'd to make it a story driven movie experience.
The climbing is a bit simplistic and overall its by far no AAA title but its gonna be an enjoyable game for sure.

Sorry for the n00bish question, I only had my modded 360 for a couple of months, if I DO NOT connect to live while playing am I ok to play leaked/non ssv2 games? Or will the console "log" this and report to m$ next time I connect to live?

I did that with old firmware for over a year and did not get banned. Can not guarantee you will have the same luck or that I will survive the next banwave since i began going online again. We'll see.

Played a couple of hrs. It's a borefest so far, just like the demo. If it stays like this till the end it'll be one of the best looking epic fails in console history.

If you though the demo was a giant borefest, why on earth did you burn the game?

Heavenly Sword was no AAA title either so I expect comparable quality from this game. Probably a 3 or 4 out of 5 game.

I should skip this one. Played the demo and can say the same - borefest. Shitty automatic platforming (you cannot even die thanks to the invisible walls) and there is no combat system. Sad

Gameplay seems meh.

I think I´ll burn it just too see how good it looks on projection. Laughing

If castlevania would be out already, i wouldn´t bother. Razz

Ign wanted the castlevania game to be in the vein of C:SotN. Obviously it is not.

Back to enslaved (and still IGN):
Gameplay 7.0
Enslaved falls apart a bit in the play department, with loose controls and platforming that can occasionally lean toward autopilot.

Well, that sucks.
