So ya we can all get just about everything we need for free from our own places but some just don't like to mess with the protection, the viruses packed with it, and sometimes freeware is better than anything else on the market.
This thread is going to be aimed at the Humper's favorite free alternate software. Obviously I won't list everything posted due to the list would get garbled than, I will list the most mentioned and most used, helpful software listed, but don't let that stop you from posting what you use as users who read this thread will likely read your post and make use of what you mentioned.

This thread is going to be aimed at the Humper's favorite free software. Obviously I don't have all the answers of the programs so list what you use and for what and it shall be added.
Anti-Virus (this is going to cause a heated debate so provide proof to your claims)
- Avira Anti Virus
- Microsoft Security Essentials
Burning Software
- IMG Burn
DVD Copy
- DVD Decryptor
- DVD Shrink
Movie Players
- Media Player Classic
- VLC Player
Video file to DVD
- DVD Flick

Hmm, interesting, those are the apps I use (except for Avira, I'm content with only MSE).

I was hoping to stick to a decent list of tools applications that would get widely used, MSI Afterburner is an overclocking tool and isn't the focus of this thread. These are more tools you can use for your computer where most companies charge for them.

Well, a list of freeware everybody knows and uses already is useless. This thread started bad by not having any links and we already see ppl telling other what is good or not. And btw Afterburner is probably one of the most used freeware and not only for overclocking but also for monitoring.

A list of apps everyone uses listed so other who may not have an idea of what to use can look here is the focus. If you don't like the point of the thread then you aren't forced to post or look here, your also free to make your own thread with whatever goal you want for it.
I already planned on adding links to the list, im just lazy atm
@mortibus I'll put it under misc
I guess what I was going for is a list of programs most people would have installed right away or a common use, I guess afterburner would be something most people would use lol. I just don't want this list to turn into a clusterfuck of every freeware program out there, but rather the more used/useful ones.

Just lets make a list and not get lost in talk about how its done right. I think you dont need to put everything listed by users in your first post. This becomes a hell of a job to maintain later. Just make some rules how to list software and let them post away.

ffdshow (32-bit + 64-bit) - video and audio decoder.
JDownloader - Downloads automatically from rapidshares.

Unlocker - Finally a 64-bit version is available - unlocks file handles from processes in order to allow moving, editing, deleting, etc of files.
Media Center Master - Downloads metadata (like cover, cast list, etc) for movies and TV series - very useful.
Tunngle - LAN over internet.
