|
 |
Quote: | Super Meat Boy is a platform game developed by Team Meat and is the successor to Edmund Mcmillen's and Jonathan McEntee's flash game, Meat Boy, originally released on Newgrounds in October 2008.[2]. It will be released on Xbox Live Arcade on October 20, 2010[1] and on WiiWare, Windows, and Mac in November 2010. |
Quote: | The game sees players taking on the role of a small animated cube of meat named Meat Boy who must save his girlfriend, Bandage Girl, from the evil Dr. Fetus. Players must use sharp reflexes to guide Meat Boy to the end of each level, using his wall clinging ability, whilst avoiding buzzsaws, salt, and other various death bringing obstacles. The game will contain about 350 levels, which are split across various chapters.[3] Levels in each chapter can be played in any order, but a certain number of levels need to be completed to access the boss stage.[4] Completing a level with an 'A' grade will unlock a harder alternate level. Characters from various indie games can be unlocked by collecting bandages hidden in the levels, or entering warp zones featuring retro styled bonus levels. These levels will also have retro rules applied to them (such as a three life limit).[5] There will also be a replay function, showcasing failed attempts simultaneously.[6] The XBLA version will feature an unlockable mode which will be freely updated with new levels. A full level editor was planned,[7] but due to new regulations concerning user made content on consoles, only the PC and Mac versions of the game will have this feature, which will be released some time after the PC version ships. Quote: | Q: Will the internets levels be playable on the pc?
A: Once the level editor is out all user made chapters and bonus levels released there after will be avalible for download free of charge.

It's far from N, but it's a pure ripoff of Jumper2.

just me not feeling overly excited about another generic Indie platformer? Seems like we get those kinda games every single week lately...
I'm all for indie games but do they always have to be some lame platformer? Where is the innovation?

You travel to different games within the game, with cutscenes reminiscent of different eras (Atari 2600, NES and so on). Also, it's pretty fucking hard, which is very unusual for today's market.
And the music is fucking awesome.
I'll buy it as soon as it's available.

http://news.bigdownload.com/2010/11/12/super-meat-boys-latest-pc-exclusive-character-revealed/
Quote: | We spend some time chatting with McMillen and Refenes about the upcoming PC version and its clear that both men feel that the PC port is the "Director's Cut" version of the game with things that they were unable to put into the Xbox 360 port. One of those things was how the two versions handle achievements. The Xbox 360 has some hard and fast rules on not just the number of achievements in a game but also where they should be placed. The Steam achievements for the PC port have no such limitations and Team Meat loaded it up with 33 of them. The achievements themselves are also true achievements for players to reach for instead of simple ones like completing the first chapter or completing the game.
While it won't be available when the PC port is released on Steam and Direct2Drive, Team Meat does plan on releasing a level editor for Super Meat Boy separately sometime in December. Not only that but the team will be establishing an online portal where level creators can upload and share their new creations with others and have them ranked by players. Team Meat also plans to take the best of the PC level creations and have them be added as extra downloadable content for the Xbox 360 version, which for a number of reasons won't have a level editor.
A retail box copy release of the PC version of Super Meat Boy is also something that Team Meat has talked about for the future and a CD-ROM Collector's edition of the PC game is also a possibility. This CD-Rom would be sold via mail order and the Super Meat Boy web site and would have tons of behind-the-scenes content (videos, artwork and other surprises) for fans. Both Mac and Linux ports for the game are also due for release sometime in the future. A PC demo might be released for the game but it depends if there is a demand for such a demo. |
Quote: | And finally Team Meat said that the Steam version will have something extra as well although they would not go into details yet. |

Machinarium guy as a playable character? Awesome.
I wonder if something from World of Goo will make an appearance, since they mentioned basing characters on indie games. A WoG character would actually kind of fit this platform type gameplay.

They already have Gish though, so not sure what they could take from WoG.
