|
 |
So I'm now getting a JTAG:ed 360 for all my offline gaming needs (additionally, I have to get another one that's not modded for Live-play).
Now, I don't know much about how to handle/use a JTAG 360, so is there any site (well I know of Xbox-Scene, but besides that?) with information, guides, apps etc.. Any info is good info
Watercooled 5950X | AORUS Master X570 | Asus RTX 3090 TUF Gaming OC | 64Gb RAM | 1Tb 970 Evo Plus + 2Tb 660p | etc etc

If I could get an old JTAG'able 360 for £50 - is it worth it? How much expense is there in JTAGGING?

bah
not worth it
£50+25 = £75 + whatever an external HDD is going to cost
Won't be getting through 100+ verbs before the next gen of consoles, so wont bother.

Oh and btw - how does dash upgrading work on JTAGed boxes? Do I have to flash the NAND every time? For example, I've seen things that require the 9199 dash, say that i have a JTAGed box but not the 9199 dash - how is it upgraded?

You're forgetting all the Arcade games you can play on JTAG. There's literally hundreds of them, would easily pay for itself.
Plus loading full games off the HDD is so much easier than fiddling with discs.

You mean those dashboards like Freestyle Dash etc? They are simply programs you add to autostart when your console boots. You configure that in .ini file saved on console HDD or USB.
I flash freeBOOT with dash launch which does what name says. Allows custom dashboards to start automatically without any flashing involved. |
Oh okay, but like this:
http://www.forums.xbox360-content.com/showthread.php?5548-Unlicensed-Content-Patch
It says "You must have the 9199 dashboard" ?

BTW, you don't need a special XBOX360 hdd for a jtag... Basically you can plug any 2.5" hdd into the xbox case, and it will format fine, no need for any trick or a western digital.
Another thing, you can use a 20GB usb thumb or 20GB of a usb hdd to store your DLC/Profile and just use that usb hdd to store directly games in it.
Basically, if you don't wanna buy ANY xbox hdd case for your jtag (or a 2.5" hdd), you can simply plug any USB HDD in it, allocate 20GB (that's MS limit) for DLC & profiles and use whatever gigs you have free for games etc (while the dashboard won't use more than 20GB, you can still use what you have left with xexmenu etc)

just my .02 - i would use an internal drive on the jtag and use a large one. you could keep your gamertag on a memory card and whatever saves you needed to switch back and forth, not that i understand why you would want to play the same game on each box. that in itself would eliminate the need for saves being in one place.
of course i haven't read anything to back it up but i have seen it here and there - supposedly if you're signed in to your tag while using xexmenu or any other custom dash you can get your tag flagged (hehe) for reset and/or banning. also playing a game's DLC without actually having it attached to your account could be a cause for raising eyebrows and the same for arcade titles. i read where one person said yea but say i go to a friends house and sign in with my tag and he's signed in with his and i play some of his arcade shit, same difference right? so who knows what will actually come of that. i would keep my 2 drives seperate if i was you, if you actually care about live. i don't even use my other 360 since getting my jtagged box up and running.
if you do go that route, don't waste your time with an SSD drive. i put one in my jtagged box last night and used dead rising 2 for testing since it has so much fuckin' loading. it did not load the game, saves, or in between areas any faster than it did with the mechanical hard drive. was a pretty big let down.

The external hdd, it doesn't need any special pre-formatting or anything? Just have a directory on it with the games?

Best app for extracting ISOs?
I don't need to ftp them, my JTAG box will be right next to my PC with the external HDD.

I found this:
http://www.xbox360-hacks.com/2010/10/10/xbox-360-iso-extract-v0-5/
Tried it, does what it says. Supports batch unpacking, FTP, delete ISO after completion etc..
