Fuck if I know. But I know this: The PC will always be the place that drives innovation. The PC is the place where great game developers are born, even—and maybe especially—where great console game developers are born. Halo, Mass Effect, Call of Duty…PC developers first. And it's on the PC where the leading-edge ideas form, primarily because the barrier of entry is low.
But here's something you can take the bank: If you want to know the future of gaming, buy a PC. And pay attention. Because above all, that thing on your desk is a crystal ball. |

The PC is the future?
Well, then give us a proper sequel of System Shock 2 instead of that consolized hybrid of Bioshock!

The one who wrote that is probably some imbecile that only knew the flat Nintendo-style pads, probably never heard of such things as force-feedback, joysticks and so on. For him, the inclusion of analog sticks in the PS1 pad was probably as big event as Jesus resurrection.

Rumble - gamepad
Dual Analog - gamepad
Analog Triggers - gamepad
We've had arcade sticks and gear for years.
Touch Screen - Yep got those, not that useful on large displays
Motion Control - head tracking
Voice Control - microphones....seriously?
Skeletal Tracking - lol
Stupid people bring me joy and pain, what a moron. |
Not to mention that Levine was talking about innovations in software (it's a given console hardware can't be innovative 6 months after it has been released no?) so I don't know why he talks about Dual Analog controllers and what not.

Irrational Games has revealed a nearly-10-year-old document written by Ken Levine. The 2001 pitch describes "Monster Island," a console action game inspired by '50s Japanese film monsters. Levine suggested a budget of $2.5 million for the game, and regarding its platform, wrote, "XBox is probably the easiest, PS2 is a pain in the butt, and who knows about GameCube?" What a fantastic piece of gaming lore!

An innovation in software for console derps is Avatars. OMG I CAN DRESS MYSELF. Innovative titles tend to come from small devs and or big ones that like to take risks (hahahaha). Ken is right to a degree it's a shame he works for a company that does not share his thoughts. Or he could just be trolling for positive PR. Probably the latter. I've already got a bet that the new Bioshock Game will fuck up 16:10 like the other two BS games have on PC.

His favorite 2013 games (the list is unordered): http://www.giantbomb.com/articles/ken-levine-s-top-10-games-of-2013/1100-4823/
Quote: | 10. XCOM: Enemy Within
Hey, it’s XCom. And it's awesome, adding in rather than adding on. A great design gets better.
9. Sid Meier's Civilization V: Brave New World
Hey another expansion pack! From the company I work for. I’m either a sellout, or am the biggest Civ Whore of all time (Hint: I’m the biggest Civ Whore of all time). They will take my Civ when they pry it out my cold, dead hands.
8. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag
Pirates. Sword fighting. Sailing ships. Or as Churchill described the life of the old timey sailor, “Rum, sodomy and the lash.” Great game, great characters. Bravo.
7. Lords of Waterdeep (iOS)
A Euro game posing as a Dungeons and Dragons game posing as an iOS game. If I had any friends I’d play it with them, but the AI will have to do.
6. Rocksmith 2014
Yes, it really, really teaches you to play guitar. Or, it teaches me at least. I live for three things now: my career, my wife and playing the bass line of "Creep" at 4 in the morning in my bath robe.
5. Fallen Enchantress
An older game I didn’t to play until this year. Master of Magic for the modern day. Nuff said.
4. Dishonored
Was too busy shipping Infinite to play it properly when it came out, but wow. Amazingly tight, incredibly tuned, full of options, a cool looking world and around 16 tons of fun.
3. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD
A magical game about a floutist. What else do I need to say that hasn’t been said, except I was never one of those haters who didn’t like the way it looked on the GameCube, and it’s even better now.
2. LEGO Marvel Super Heroes
Why? Because M.O.D.O.K., that’s why!
1. Unity of Command, expansion #3? 4? Who knows.
All I do know is that I’m spending more time thinking about supply lines in the Caucuses than any human adult who’s not actually on the Eastern Front should. |

And those are just some simple hardware examples. Ask yourself where all the gameplay innovation has come from. Consoles and Handhelds. |

You got to love idiots like that. None of those actually contributed to better games - quite the opposite.
Rumble, dual analog & analog triggers have been available on PC for AGES and, in fact, the PC got them FIRST. The difference was, that they weren't standard so few games made use of them.
Touch screen: not needed. Mice are more accurate and do nearly everything else just as well except for multi-touch which is rarely needed in a game. For console derps who don't know the brilliance that is a mouse, I'm sure a touch screen is magical
Motion control: oh dear. This is one of the worst "innovations" in games in the first place, and you want to boast about it? Motion control is fiddly, inaccurate, annoying and tiring to use not to mention a great way to knock stuff over. It's the same with skeletal tracking.
Voice control is so flawed, it's pretty useless for games - they experimented with it back in the early 90's on PC's and gave up because there were too many stumbling blocks.
I think the Occulus Rift beats anything above - and then there's the actual worthwhile innovations called GAMEPLAY. PC started tons of great and popular genres.

Ken Levine going open world.
http://www.gamespot.com/articles/bioshock-creators-next-game-features-a-small-scale/1100-6433214/
Quote: | "The AAA, single-player narrative game is starting to disappear," Levine said. "Kind of games like BioShock. There's fewer of them being made. The real reason is they're very expensive to make and I think gamers are saying pretty loud and clear that if they're going to spend $40, $50, $60, they want an experience that lasts more than 10-12 hours. That's a lot to ask somebody to spend."
"We started this experiment after we finished BioShock Infinite, which was, 'How do you make a narrative game feel like the kind of games we've made before but make it replayable and make it extend and make it react to the players?' Make it replayable by giving players different ways to approach the problems and really letting them dictate the experience.
"The thing we're working on is sort of a small-scale open-world game," he explained, just days after a job opening at Irrational called for someone with open-world experience. "And the reason ours is an open world game is because if you want to give the player the agency to drive the experience, that really fights against the linear nature of the games we made before like BioShock and BioShock Infinite. What it really means though is, 'How do you make your content so it feels like the quality of the content you've made in games before but reacts to the players' agency and then allows the player to do something in one playthrough and something very different in another playthrough?'" |

That video has nothing to do with his products. Sitting and listening to full of themselves assholes is not something I enjoy.
