Man I miss the old days, where co-op games were the shit, such as the ol Contras, can any of you list some good new or older console style multiplayer games, where you can play two or more people on one computer, for one thing I now have three/four spare PC gamepads, I figure instead of buying a Gamecube or Xbox, my PC could do the trick for now when friends come by.

red it does work. i host a 3 man server with my amazing connection and it works fine . download the Classic maps pack too. its only 32mb but theres about 20 more levels in there. Ive only found about 3 bugs and they're suually at the end of levels where things aren't triggering etc. but its still a lot of fun.

yea but will also mean no boosting (unless they remake the models so they dont have ragdool physics). which kinda takes some of the fun away of u boosting ur friend into a vent and listening to a crazy gunfight going on behind a door, it gives a nice effect and when u try it for the first time with the roles reversed then its nothing like u imagine . Still there are a few source mods im looking forwards to the first is KC (www.kreedz-climbing.com).

If you want to try two people on one computer (like c64 old times) try that Lord of the Rings Return of the King game. It was pretty sweet with one person on mouse keyboard and one on a stick-of-joy.

As far as multiplayer/co-op games on one pc go;
any of the Worms series, you switch turns but it doesnt take long time, and its more fun than a Barrel Of Monkeys©. My top picks would be Worms World Party, Worms Forts Under Siege and Worms Blast. The last one is much different game then the rest but its still a blast.
You might want to pick up a neogeo emulator and some roms. There are quite a few really good ol'school games on neo-geo, that are still lots of fun today. Metal Slug series, Neo Bomberman, Twinkestar Sprites are few of the titles that come to mind.
Consoles: Baldurs Gate on PS2 was very fun playing through with a friend, and i hear the new X-Men game is similar. The Sims for XBOX/PS2 was fun too, especially since you can play with a friend (girlfriend in my case with this game) in split screen mode. But not everyone likes the sims.
Im a big co-op fan too, so if anyone has any other suggestions, I'm listening.

It's too bad Perfect Dark hasn't seen more attention.
That had some great co-op, and some awesome counter-op.
I saw a few mods here and there but nothing complete, sad.
Perfect Dark was for N64.

Serious Sam SE is still the best co-op FPS ever imo.
brainless shooting, but all the funny features (and gazillions of eastereggs) made it fun as hell to ram trough millions of stupid AI with 20 other players.
just thinkin about it makes me wanna reinstall, too bad the serverlist has gone to shit cause it was never all that popular. :/

It sure was a good game, with the emphasis on "was". I say that because I reinstalled it last month and gave it a quick run with some peeps from nforce, and it was not as fun as I remember it. But if anyone didn't play it yet, they are sure missing out on a classic.
I mentioned the new X-Men Legens, and now I'm playing it. Its not bad at all, especially since you can play the whole story mode in co-op with up to 4 players total. Good game. Clean co-op fun. Give it a try.

Sven is a co-op mod for Half-Life. It sets you up with a bunch of bonus scenarious to play through with friends.
There is also a pack that comes with the latest version that lets you play through the entire SP adventure with some friends. (All except for the last boss I guess, he has some bugs).
