I bought a Samsung Galaxy I7500 and it has Android 1.5 and I've used 2.2 on several other devices and it is just a LOT better Smile

But it seems as if there are quite some Froyo releases out for this phone and I'd like to ask which one I should get (and maybe some instructions on how to actually get it on the phone and if I can make a backup of the 1.5 to upload it back again if 2.2 fails)

Smile Thx in advance!

really baffles me why these phones are still coming with such outdated android versions. It's not like a PC where the new ones need the holy grail to run the new OS, the OS just gets new features and runs faster with every release

Actually, it's the other way around. The Galaxy (I7500) is OLD now and shipped with Android 1.5, it was later updated to Android 1.6 .. but then Samsung pretty much fucking raped their customers by refusing to release any new updates. The Galaxy S (I9000) comes with Android 2.1 and updates to 2.2 Froyo .. and the Galaxy Spica (I5700) comes with 2.1 and that's that. No updates. It really does seem like Samsung don't give a flying fuck about their customers after initial purchase :\

ah so in other words they're following the path of HTC, they're notorious for updating their phones as likely as they are to abandon them.

The worst thing is, these phones aren't even CHEAP. The Galaxy and Galaxy S were so goddamn expensive when they first came out and even the Spica (also called the Galaxy Lite or Galaxy Portal) was a LOT of money to buy without a monthly contract.

Interesting as apple sell their iphone4 16gb here in germany themselves for 630€ unlocked and unbranded ...

regarding samsung:yeah they pretty much buttfucked all customers, but at less than a 4th of the initial price I won't complain Cool Face (and as you can see it's not like there'll be never 2.2 coming out for this phone Smile)

here the unlocked iPhone4 is $660 or ~465€

galaxy S without contract is around $500 or ~350€

on contract there is no difference in price between galaxy s and iphone4 either. so it seems the mobile carriers here actually subsidize the iphone4 more than other phones :/
