I'm trying to get surround sound in games via SPDIF. My mainboard has an optical toslik output that works fine for AC3 and DTS passthrough in movies but doesn't have an AC3 or DTS encoder.
My first idea was to use ffdshow's AC3 encoder to encode game audio like it does for 5.1 AAC, but I can't get the filter to connect to the game's audio stream. I've set ffdshow to accept any supported format and added the game's exe to the "whitelist" but had no success.
Suggestions from experienced PC gamers?

You mean I'm fucked?
Why is an audio stream from a game different than an audio stream from a media player?
