Hi, well my ecs mobo just shorted out(yay!) so now i need to buy a new one, as well as a new cpu since mine was only 2.2ghz. Could u guys give me some recommendations on buying a new one. I've read good things about ASUS boards and maybe an Athlon 64 cpu, the FX ones are damn expensive at the moment. I knew stuff about computers like 2 years ago when i graduated with a degree in computers, but since then, i haven't kept up with the times, so all this new mobo/cpu terminology is new to me. I got 2 512 sticks of PC2100 ddr memory incase u need that info. Pricerange i would say between $200-$400 Oh yeah one more question is their like a ratio between athlon processors and pentium processors. I see pentium has processors at like 3.4ghz while the top AMD FX processors is like 2.2ghz. So how fast would a a athlon 4000 rated at 2.4 ghz, be comparable to what on a pentium. Thanks for your help, its much apreciated.

I would recommend these:

Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe Motherboard S939 PCI-E nForce4 SLI, 4xSATA2, Dual-GbLAN, ATX
AMD Athlon 64 FX-55 2.6 GHz Socket 939, 1 MB cache, BOXED

If you got the money. Buy it! It's definetly worth it. If not an fx buy a 4000+. Memory is also very important. I would recommend at least 1gb ultra low latency OCZ 3200 CAS2.

I strongly have to disagree here. The fastest cpu of a line is always way too overprized. Take a look at the prizes for a 4000+ (700 euro) and a 3500+ (280 euro). Now i know the first one is a clawhammer and the second one is a newcastle, but still, if you take the second cpu you can buy ram and the board for the same amount of cash and still save some bucks. The performance gain isn't worth the higher prize, companys always charge extra for the top notch cpu's. It's usefull to calculate the mhz you get for 1 euro/$ (or the +rating for amd).

And don't get this ultra low latency ram, it's overprized too, and you will never see a difference in real life, even synthetic benchmarks can only show a tiny advantage. Just get the standard memory from a brand name like samsung, in your case you need new ram since most of the recent cpu's can take advantge of ddr400

@razor1394: look at nsetkhan pricerange, it's 200-400$, so your suggestion is way out of the range Smile
