Didn't really get much at christmas so in boxing week shopping I managed to buy an xbox one s. There was a 500gb GoW4+Halo5 bundle that was $330 CAD (~$250USD/$235EU). It's been about 10 years since I bought my x360, figured this was a good way to also get UHD bluray at the same time (I have 49" 4K TV without HDR, so minimal benefits).

A few questions I'm sure you guys can help with...

- good recommendation on an external HDD? Is it possible to share any of the space on the external HDD across the network (so if I get a 4GB one, can I share movies across the windows 10 network on it or will any of the cloud backup stuff work?)

- I bought NHL17 and GTAV as well, but not sure what else might be good for a start. I was thinking either Forza 6 or Horizons 3 ... since this is the first time in a while I actually have to buy games recommendations for older ones is OK Smile Games where there can be a player 2 that doesn't do much (aka my 4 year old son can play along) would be ok too (also kid friendly compatible x360 games)

- I've read some talk (just googling) about it supporting PC to Xbox streaming ... besides that they "are working on it/considering it", is there really a technical reason they couldn't do it? Steam already does this, it would be good to play games that I download (legally or otherwise) ... this was one of those things I bought it for hoping it would actually happen.

- is xbox live worth it just for the free games? 12 months costs $60 a year here, less than 2 year old releases which there seem to be several of. Along the same lines, EA Access same questions? These kind of rental models are interesting to me, I'd be fine paying for access to games without owning them...

I see no-one replied to you and I dont think Im the best person to do so but Ill give it a go as I have an Xbox One Smile

I dont have an external hard drive so cant comment on it Im afraid.
Im not a fan of ice hockey or any sports games really. GTAV is great but I have it on PS4 and to be honest I only have the Xbox for the exclusive titles.
Forza 6 is good but Forza Horizons 3 is better in my opinion! The Gears of War games are worth playing, especially Gears of War 4 but its not really suitable for your son :/
I wouldnt know anything about PC to Xbox streaming either.
Xbox Live is pretty good for free games I think.

Hopefully someone else will provide a better response Smile

May the NFOrce be with you always.

- Im using external 1 TB Samsung HDD USB 3.0 with it, and it works perfect. You need at least USB 3.0 HDD drive to work properly.

- There are tons of backward compat. games, just google them. More stuff:

Multiplat. games:

- I don't use streaming and sharing so I sadly don't kow anything about it.

- Free xbl games have more value than psn games, backwards compat. that is..

Xbox Live is definitely worth it for the free games. You should be able to find memberships for less than RRP quite easily, I've renewed mine the last couple of Black Fridays for under $40, and considering with Backwards compatibility you get 4 games per month now, that's a pretty good value. If you had Live previously for your 360, any games that you claimed under Games With Gold that are BC will be in your library still.

Have a look at some of the CD key sites for cheap live subscriptions (you should also be able to find really cheap keys for some digital codes that were bundled with consoles, ie the AC 4 and 5 codes can be found really cheap, same with Halo collection).

I don't have it, but I think EA Vault is really good too, they have 38 games in there now for XB1 according to Wikipedia. Again, it's not hard to find cheaper deals on 1 year cards (was $24 on Newegg this week).

Thanks guys, I realize that this is more of a ps4 friendly place Wink

Ended up just buying live gold ($60) and ea access ($30) for a year, a lot of the resale sites seem to originate in a different currency and I guess the conversion isn't so great right now. I like sports games so the EA access should take care of that.

bought this 2tb hdd for $100, should take care of all of the downloaded "rental" games...

will try to get on forza horizons 3 once the price comes down a bit from the $80 it retails for, Ori and the Blind Forest looks like fun too Smile

By the way, did you really hear something about streaming PC games to Xbox?

I've heard of the other way around, Xbox games streamed to a W10 PC (http://support.xbox.com/en-US/games/game-setup/how-to-use-game-streaming), and I've also heard of some games you buy digitally being playable with seamless pickup between X1 and PC (eg GOW 4, Forza 3).

And FYI, the GWG free games, you don't have to claim them from the Xbox itself, they can be claimed via Xbox.com - I haven't been online with my Xbox 1 since Fallout 4 Deluxe was accidentally free back in June, but have claimed every GWG game since then via the web.

just stuff like this about the "reverse" streaming but it seems old now :/

one

I would imagine it would be just games through the microsoft store though, same reason why the steam link isn't so useful for me
