I guess when pushing my CPU to 4.6Ghz, I forgot that my NB chipset was being cooled with an old fashion passive heatsink. Well fuck now that shit is fried and Im gonna be PC-less for like 2 weeks

Just like that? No warning signs like sudden freezes or BSOD's?
Though luck...

Yea somebody mentioned on EVGA forum the system has no overheating protection for NB. It will only shut down when the CPU overheats (not sure if this is true or not) but I was watercooling my CPU so the CPU was nice and cool while my NB was getting cooked.
The NB used to also idle at 89C in BIOS which I thought looked a bit odd. But many people mentioned the FTW3 board NB gets hot so I figured that was normal
I was running a stability test, CPU temp was beautiful. I then got a black screen and the comp never turened on again lol. And believe me Ive tried everything from placing the mobo on cardboard to using different PSU. CHecked GPU and RAM. Before, when I tried to power on the mobo without a PSU or RAM, it would give an error code on the LED. The problem now is, the error code led on the motherboard is permanently dead. Usually when there was an error it would display an error code but now its just blank. Even EVGA Tech support concluded that the board is dead
DAMN!

Hmm, and you believe you'll get a new one on RMA even though you killed it yourself?

Its not my fault. They should have added a fan to the NB heatsink like all EVGA boards

Lol not my fault. I had nothing to do with their stupid design flaw
I should change the title of the thread to "THEY fried my motherboard." Theyre lucky they didn't fry my CPU otherwise Id be even more pissed.

you are wrong on so many levels, how can you blame the board makers? they dont tell you to OC it ffs
Its your choice to alter the specs of the board and that means the responsibility rests in your hands ( i almost put capable before that there ) - you were negligable because you overlooked teh fact that ur NB had a heatsink only on it, hey funny that so does mine with pipes hanging out of it for cooling..
Its ok you can blame yourself were used to you making cockups by now here on the hump I am actually suprised you were not going to say ..

I really don't get it. Do you get anything by OC'ing your comp like that? What, you gain, like 5% increase when your CPU is running @4GHz, big deal.
I mean you are deliberately breaking your setup by doing this. And no matter how good your cooling is, if it's not liquid nitrogen ( ) you are pushing your little FETs and MOSFETs to the limit. You are breaking them.
And then you expect that they replace your board
Only if the ppl who will inspect your MBO are total twats, you'll get new one...

Be sure to reset the cmos and apply for an RMA stating that the shit just stopped working, act like really retarded as if you don't even know what a motherboard is(seeing as retards don't even know the term overclocking). Thats all you can do, next time don't be so retarded to push it across 4Gh'z).

Overclocking cpu is only good for increasing e-penis size and benchmark scores. Especially if you already have a high end CPU. Not worth it that you would actually notice a difference in real world setup for most users unless you're doing offline rendering and/or video en/decoding, and even that stuff gets handled by GPUs nowadays.

I'd have to agree..I see so little point in OC CPU these days, unless you want that extra 2% performance..then take 20 pictures of the inside of your computer with a wide angle lens at 200% magnification. Throw in some hyper technical words that don't even exist and you can start up your own blog.
Even in high end rendering, in a render farm you're gonna be more worryed about efficiency and cooling than OC power.

I remember mentioning in the NB overclocking thread started by Spykez about being careful when raising the voltage on the NB. In his case the NB was on-die so water-cooling the cpu took care of the heating issues. The situation becomes worse when you water-cool a a cpu with a separate NB.
Board manufacturers usually don't put an NB fan because the CPU fan provides enough air-flow to cool the NB. When you go with water-cooling the air-flow becomes zero and the NB is bound to overheat.[/Captain Hindsight mode]
And over-clocking is not about performance or benching. It's just a hobby.

to me overclocking i5 or i7 is simply useless waist of time, stability and high temps
there is hobby and there is practicality, it's absolutely pointless overclocking these cpu's even by 1ghz, considering most of the games we play are derp ports, u gain maybe 5-10 fps in some games and that's about it
