Ok guys I'd like to buy a new 24'' monitor, but my budget is only 250€ max..
I'll use it only for gaming and watching movies
After some googling I found some monitors:
Samsung SyncMaster P2470H
Quote: | Screen size 24 inches
Panel type TN
Resolution 1920 x 1080
Response time 2 ms
Contrast Ratio (dynamic): 70000:1 |
~230€

ASUS VW246H
Quote: | Screen size 24 inches
Panel type TN
Resolution 1920 x 1080
Response time 2 ms
Contrast Ratio (dynamic): 20000:1 |
~200€

I couldn't find anything else at that price (I focalized my research on monitors with high responsiveness and decent quality).
What do you think, any feedbacks/suggestions? I'm quite noob when it comes to monitors

A Samsung Syncmaster 204b (4:3, 20.1''), but it's giving me some problems so I'm deciding to replace it

The monitors you've posted are good. If you're not pretentious over image quality (i.e. you're not an animator, artist, graphical designer who requires pristine and qualitative imagery), just pick one up of the above two closest to your liking. TN matrix is just about right when it comes to gaming, movies and internet browsing. Plus, given that your budget is limited, these two are quite a good deal. Personally, I'd latch the Samsung ...

ixigia is limited on budget, so I'd go with Samsung too. But make sure to check reviews to see if all revisions are good. Sometimes some revisions are not as good as the others.

Thanks guys for the fast replies
I think I'll choose the Samsung; the user reviews are definitely positive as well as the experts' ones, also I like the aesthetic design of the P2470H

This. Make sure you check the EXACT model number on the box ixigia. Samsung often replace their panels with inferior ones for the retail version |
sometimes a not so great revision can be altered via the engineers panel as well though + with a decent profile..
the 226bw's had the panel difference shit as well from some not coming out of the main samsung site but made elsewhere and inferior slightly.

No I'm talking from switching from a good panel like Samsung's own to something shit like Philips. No fiddling or profile can fix those

Go for a 120hz LCD. Not just for 3d vision but for the refresh rate. It makes everything look sexy smooth

This is exactly what every person with a 60hz monitor will always say. Obviously youve never gamed on 60hz+ CRT monitor

i just get screen tearing in some games, that's the only sign that game runs above 60fps for me
v-sync fixing that naturally |
The reason you get screen tearing is because your monitor is only capable of refreshing at 60hz while your game is displaying 60+fps. Vsync locks your max fps to your refresh rate (60 for you) so you dont see any tearing. In other words, you cant see anything past 60fps using your monitor

considering human eye can't catch anything beyond 24 fps, sure
it's just for gaming 60 fps is a must for maximum eye rest, some engines can pull out smoothness even with 30 fps
taken from your own link
Quote: | If the primary application of you display is gaming, I suggest against purchasing a 120hz[HDTV]. The benefit of 120hz technology in 120hz LCD HDTVs will not be utilized in gaming applications. The reason for this is, a 120hz LCD HDTV refreshes at 120hz, although, it will only accept a 60hz or lower input[even if they did accept 120hz inputs, it would simply render it at 60hz and double the frames; 60hz x2=120 instead of TRUE 120hz. In other words, 120hz LCD HDTVs are not TRUE 120hz displays]. Consequently, even if you are gaming at above 120 frames per second, you will not gain the benefit of seeing those additional frames. |
so yeah, like i said gbye

HAHAHAHAHA wow. Youre serious?
How am I (the guy who washes laptop screen with soap) the only person who isn't clueless about refresh rates
ixigia, do yourself a favor and research 120Hz vs 60hz before purchasing your new monitor instead of listening to these biased comments

Again another clueless comment. What youre referring to is image interpolation which HDTV's use(60hz input, 120hz output). True 120hz LCD monitor dont use interpolation. A true 120hz Monitor can take an input of 120hz and output 120Hz.

No such "above" unless youre referring to 120hz+ HDTV using interpolation (fake 240hz)
Enjoy your permanent 60fps cap
