I got the mail also, but I will not in a million years buy a Gaijin Entertainment game again. In 3 months, they'll announce an expansion coming that will incorporate a patch that people were asking for since release.
I don't remember anything like that but feel free to explain, maybe I've just forgotten.
(Luftwaffe addon I do remember but it just added a bunch of German planes didn't it?)
EDIT: Bit late for that though, here's the client torrent anyway (HTTP is a subscription based premium service and I dislike their launcher.) though whatever use it might be without a serial I don't know and this is a difficult protection to crack as well but perhaps if it spreads around someone will get at it eventually.
(Have fond memories of some SNES game or such from long ago, if this is anything like that I'm really going to enjoy this even though a option for a more simulator experience would also have been nice though possibly not exactly as extreme as say AH-110 or what that game was actually called.)
Yes, they had a forum post with bugs found that were supposed to be fixed with a patch, as well as features to be added also in a post. And in the end what they do? Announce a sequel that will have all the fixes and features, and leave WoP to die.
Aha so that's why there's been no patches for the game since the (By now rather old.) 1.0.3.2 patch then, I haven't had much insight in the development and continued support but that does sound like a problem, interesting info.
I watched a video the other day with one of the devs talking about how they tried to make this more sim than arcade. He said they had to create a training mode to teach people how to fly it. I have a hard time believing the sim part but I still think it's probably more realistic than say, HAWX or Ace Combat. But every computer helicopter "sim" is arcady for me since I actually fly helicopters.
I am VERY curious to see what happens with that combat helo game. He mentioned the flight dynamics package he was using but I wasn't clear on if he was using something like OFD (I think he called it FFD, Free Flight Dynamics) or if it's something he rolled himself. I'm curious if he just approximates the flight model using an aircraft.cfg type of file or if he goes the same route they went with Black Shark and model the flight systems in depth. If only FSX had HALF the flight model that DCS Black Shark does. Hell, if this combat helo has half the flight model Black Shark does it'll be badass.
Anyway, I don't have high hopes for Apache Air Assault but at least (for me) it shows more promise than something like HAWX
I've only tried the training mode and the first level plus the tutorial but there is a realistic mode as well that according to the info the game provides should be much more real though probably not a full simulator like.
Some images from the first level, everything as high as possible plus 2x AA, looks pretty good though terrain as usual is pretty low-detail.

Apparently the campaign only has local co-op. That, right there, is massive fucking fail. Also, a note for future reference, any game that bills itself as a "sim" but uses 3rd person view as default, is nowhere near such. Regardless, I'm kind of itching to try this.
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

You can choose the default camera perspective in the option menu, full cockpit, simple view and third person, I'm still testing stuff and learning so for now I use third person.
It uses the YuPlay information via a very light Star-Force 5 system (No drivers and activation at all compared to full with drivers and light with activation, only uses the YuPlay info.) but it's probably still difficult to crack and might use "triggers" as well.
Unsure about the multiplayer aspect of the game but that seems correct from what little I've checked of that.

The campaign is only local co-op but there are 13 separate missions designed specifically for online co-op. I read that you can try them as single player but that it would be really hard since they're designed for a squadron of apaches.
As for the third person view.... there isn't a sim that's been made that doesn't allow you to play it from a 3rd person view. Note: I'm not saying that this qualifies as a sim - I haven't played it yet. Besides, it has a full 3d cockpit, zoomable, and you can take either pilot or cp/g positions. I can understand them making the 3rd person view the default (if that's the case) simply to ease new players into the game.
I assume this is on the console but you can see the 1st person views in the beginning when it starts.

I wish man. When I was younger I passed up the chance to get into Army Aviation and I kick my own ass for that every day. So I'm sortof making up for that now
