I don't wanted to offtop other topics too much so here is one that concentrize directly onto this. Guess Iam not only one who is using netbook as movie platform.

I own Sammy n150.
it uses n450 atom 1.66 CPU (With hyperthreading so it appears as 2cores)
1gb ddr2 667
intergrated GPU intel gma 3150
Realtek HD

These are specs for most of mainstream netbooks on the market as for now btw.

The thing is: I was using Media Player Classic with cccp codec pack and it was NOT possible to run 720p BRRIPS/bdrips (I am talking about 1280x720 rips where 2hour movie takes approximietly 2-2,5gb)
The videos were slow and hitchy all the time.

But then I started to look around for a solution and You guys told me bunch of different codec free players faster and better than mcp.

After some little testing(mostly just installing player and trying out movie with default player settings) VLC has won....
...But not without cons.

Today Ive watched "Back To The Future 1985 720p BRRip x264-HDLiTE" Which is woooow incredible movie... and quality is amazing! Its even better than when I was a kid. Great movie(tomorrow going with part 2). Pardon my orgazms here but its first "hd" movie I've seen and its amazing what can they do with grain of the old film tapes Shocked
But anyway-Back on track
Its almost 2h movie and It was working flawlessly almost al the time full fps butter smooth sharp looking. Unfortunnetly it was very hitchy about 5 times during whole movie. Mostly when there was a lot of fast movement on the screen like that part when Marty was rocking, or the ending with delorean taking off.

--Anything can be done about that? Settings maybe? Maybe yet another player? Ive been watching it with avast of, Wifi of etc...
ps. I am using windows 7 ultimate but might switch to xp if performance will be better. After all Windows 7 is using almost 600mb of fucking memory. Rolling Eyes

Windows 7 is not just like XP where you say "oh 600mb in task manager!". The whole memory management is totally different. Don't bother all to much with that. Maybe you could turn off Windows 7 aero and over clock your GFX card if that is doing some help on the actual de-coding.

I would recommend testing KMPlayer as it had better performance and videoquality as VLC, at least for me.

You should directly talk to iNatan and ask him about the perfect settings for KMPlayer Smile

aero turned off to windows basic. Wifi off, so avast.
installed KMPlayer 3.0.0.1439 (latest I could find)

There is a difference!

VLC always skips plenty of long frames in ending scene where delorean takes off, While defaulty set KMplayer shows the movie in slow motion.(seems like 50% of speed) but no hitches or whatsoevef. Slowdowns are smooth..
So If I am to choose lost of scene or slow motion scene Laughing I am choosing slow motion defo.

if you have a spare minipci express slot like on the Acer 532h (same config as your sammy) you can install this:

http://www.amazon.com/HB-VD904-Broadcom-Enhanced-Hardware-Accelerator/dp/B003TU07GU

and enjoy 1080p without lags

well then the thread can be closed because it's the max you can squeeze out of a 450 + Nvidia3150 combination.

I typed a huge wall of text, but it got deleted by a mistake.

I used to have 1GB on my laptop, and watching videos with AERO and VMR on is difficult, especially the larger ones (like 1080p).

Here are my suggestions:

Codec packs = Laughing
VLC = So shit, it's laughable.

  • Uninstall all codec pack crap !!!
  • Download the latest 32-bit MPC Homecinema build from: http://www.xvidvideo.ru/media-player-classic-home-cinema-x86-x64/
  • In View -> Options -> Playback -> Output, select Overlay Mixer. This will also solve your AERO problem, because Overlay mixer is not compatible with that, and also OM is very fast at rendering, and quality is good enough compared to VMR.
  • (Only if you intend to watch proper 720p rips encoded in h264) In View -> Options -> Internal Filters, and disable the two H264/AVC settings. Now install either the DivX H264 decoder (free, one of the fastest) or CoreAVC 2 (fastest).

You can do the same in KMplayer, but it's not as low-footprint as MPCHC.

Thanks!
Ive did what You said.
Uninstalled everything else. Installed MPCHC. Enabled overlay, Disabled h264/avc and installed coreavc2.
Performance already was better but then Ive saw that haali renderer become avaible and enabled it instead of OM and it paid off! Performance is even a bit better+ subtitles are working with Haali renderer !!! yay!

So far MPCHC+CoreAVC2+haali rendere = best resoults...(Or its my imagination at this point:lol:)
no srsly. Its better than I ever expected from netbook!

Going to watch back to the future2 right away Laughing

Why is mpc-hc showing resolution of movie in properties as this?

This is resolution movie opens when I start it up.
KM also start in medium size window like that(just for comparsion-I am using great mpc-hc+avc as iNatan advised)

But in media player default on win7 it starts in big window(not fullscreen).

I mean... Its comfortable to start in medium size window as mpc-hc does but it doesnt show any other res when I resize window, so what is it?

So are these players doubling down resolution or its just a window opening res?
I am almost certain it have nothing to do with quality becouse I was not able to find any detail difference between default mp7 which starts full and mpc or km which starts medium.

just curious
btw. Back to the future best movie trilogy ever!!!!! My childhood sould got unleashed when Doc fly away with the train Crying or Very sad

It's just the window size at the time of properties. Resize it and see the properties again. Smile

Maybe the movie you're watching is mislabeled? Does it happens on other movies too? My properties always show the correct size.

nooo. Movies are correct 1280x720 brrips.
You can see on the image above that video size is twice small as movie resolution. And thats just the way movie starts.

I was checking a quality of movies which works that way with snapshots that come together with these torrents and quality is exacly the same as on those jpgs. SO there is no problem at all. I was just wondering.
