|
 |
Hey all,
There's an elder woman I'm trying to help with this problem.
As mentioned in the header, suddenly the whole inbox file got corrupted, so she couldn't see any mail and could not receive any new ones in Outlook Express.
For now I moved the inbox.dbx file to another location, so she can now receive new e-mails, but still cannot access the old ones.
I tried looking for solutions on how to fix the old .dbx file, and all I could find were software who demanded money for it, and I'm wondering if there's any simpler solution (besides buying or, pirating them).
Her actual account is actually a Gmail, and she gets the e-mails through Gmail's pop3 interface, so maybe I can somehow export her gmail's inbox into to a new .dbx file, and just put it into outlook express?
Thanks!

Can't you/she log into gmail and check the old mail ?
I mean, the mail is there on the server, right ?

yea dont see why she cant just do that. just login and she can access it there.
OR
Take a look at the send and receive options, there may be an option that will download all the emails again as when I installed Firefox's email client it downloaded every single bastarding email again!!! Over a thousand of them!!!

They are all there, but you know how are the elderly people, they can't get used to anything else besides the methods they already know.
Lathieza - Thanks, but that software only allows me to save the E-mails inside the .dbx file as seperate e-mail files, I need a software that will fix the current .dbx.
Steve-O 2004 - Maybe that's possible, but it will take a lot of time, It'b about 5GB of data.
Probably I just need a good software just so I could fix the old .dbx file.

LoL.
I looked for another solution and I found one at microsofts, suggesting to try and 'Compact' that .dbx file through the compact function at OutlookExpress.
I tried that, and I was stupid enough to microsoft's solutions without backing up the corrupted .dbx file, and unfortunately it didn't fix anything, and moreover it emptied the corrupted .dbx file and its .bak file.
Also, the Gmail POP forwarding settings were set to delete every downloaded E-mail, so that got out of the question either.
So Microsoft = Epic fail.

Yeah that option could have been great if only the her gmail account wouldn't had been set to
"When messages are accessed with POP - delete Gmail's copy", so all the old mail got deleted from gmail too.
