Square Enix
Role-Playing
Release: Jan 31, 2012 (US) , Feb 3, 2012 (EU)
ESRB: T
Quote: | Final Fantasy XIII-2 is a console role-playing video game developed and published by Square Enix for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It is being produced by Square Enix's 1st Production Department, with help from external developer tri-Ace. It is a direct sequel to the 2009 role playing game, Final Fantasy XIII.
The game takes place three years after the events of Final Fantasy XIII, Lightning, the protagonist of the original game, has disappeared into an unknown world. Her younger sister Serah Farron, a returning character, and a boy named Noel Kreiss attempt to find Lightning. |
Quote: | Final Fantasy XIII-2 has two new main playable characters: Serah Farron, Lightning's younger sister, and Noel Kreiss, a mysterious young time traveler from 700 years in the future who uses dual combinable swords.[13] He is the last surviving human from his time, and he seeks to change that fate. Lightning, the main protagonist of Final Fantasy XIII, will have brief playable appearances as she serves as a knight protecting the Goddess Etro's shrine in Valhalla from Caius. Serah appeared as an NPC in XIII and is given a much larger role in this game as she goes on a journey with Noel and her new Moogle companion named Mog to find her sister.
Other new characters include Caius Ballad, a mysterious purple-haired man in dark purple and black clothes from the future who is the game's main antagonist. He is also Noel's former friend and mentor, Lightning's fated rival, and the immortal guardian of the timeline. His companion Paddra Nsu-Yeul, a mysterious Pulsian seeress with strong connections to him and Serah referenced in Final Fantasy XIII, as the author of two Analects made during Fang and Vanille's time over 500 years in the past, and Alyssa Zaidelle, a young girl with short blonde hair in yellow and red clothes who works as part of the Academy organization as Hope's assistant. In addition, the six main playable characters and NORA from Final Fantasy XIII will make reappearances in Final Fantasy XIII-2.
Snow Villiers and Hope Estheim return with drastically new appearances. Hope returns as the 24-year-old leader of the Academy, a scientific expedition group that studies the world's history, looks for a new energy source for Cocoon to replace its dead fal'Cie, and plans to build a future in which the world does not rely on the fal'Cie. Snow reappears in darker clothes and no longer wears a bandanna to cover his hair. He is somehow transformed back into a Pulse l'Cie, and returns in the Sunleth Waterscape as an uncontrollable guest character. He saves Serah and Noel from a giant Flan-type monster before the latter berates him for always believing himself to be "The Hero" and seemingly abandoning Serah. Sazh returns taking part in activities to better Gran Pulse, but nothing else is currently known about his role. Oerba Dia Vanille and Oerba Yun Fang are also confirmed to return, but nothing is known about their roles. |

oh boy ... another game to add to the buy list ... fuck off i finished it and liked it
the same happened to God of War 2 when they cut ATLANTIS level and later they sold it as a FULL PSP GAME called God of War: Ghost of Sparta LULZ

As distasteful to admit as it is, Spidey is actually quite correct. The 360 version is very much the uglier cousin, with worse performance to boot. As for the cut content? Also true. SE never made any secret of the fact that they cut a significant portion if content, enough that could honestly make up a second game - add to he fact that SE routinely milk their cows, then it really isn't much of a surprise that FFXIII-2 is just more milking.
I'm going to pirate it first, see if they really did fix the issues from he shitty first part... And if so, I'll buy it. Maybe.

What was the last good FF game on PS3 if one played and enjoyed FF7 a long, long time ago?

On the PS3? There wasn't one. The last good FF title would be FFX on the PS2, proceeded by the earlier PSone titles.

What do you mean, bud? There has only been one FF game on the PS3 and that was FFXIII. Prior to that, the rest of the FF titles were on ps2 and ps1.

Strange, I thought there had been several releases on the PS3. My bad. I guess I'll have to keep holding to my FF7 memories.

FFX on the PStwo is awesome, though my heart will always belong to FFVIII and FFVI.

I found a thread showing a shitload of FFX-2 benchies, an OCd E8400 seems to be capable of handling it so my E8500 should run it too yay! Or is FFX slower?
When I last tried the emu half a year ago, it was unplayable (i.e. not smooth). Though I must admit I tried GoW 1/2 mostly.

Yes but that's still the biggest load of fanboy bullshit ^^^. Especially that part about 9 DVDs lol, that's crazy. FF13-2 is on 1 DVD btw, so start whining about SE who cut the PS3 version of FF13-2 to fit it on 1 xbox DVD. lol. I remember sonyboys whining about Dark Souls being only 4 gb, while Demon Souls was 9 gb or something. The blame was on xbox360 of course, what else

They actually show and give you all the mechanics pretty early on this time and let you play since the game can be done in 20-25 hours. It takes a lot more time to collect all fragments (160 - basically sidequests and misc objectives in several categories).
The multiple endings are kind of a lie, there are no real alternative endings like you would expect. They're usually a completely retarded cutscene after you beat a boss when certain conditions are met (after finishing the game and seeing the CGI ending). There is a little addon to the CGI end when you collect all 160 fragments, but still there's only that one end in classic terms of beating a game.
You can save anywhere (not in battles of course...).
Some people may not like that throughout the game you control only Serah and Noel with ~150 recruitable paradigm-switchable monsters as party members. The "guest characters" are bullshit.
The battles are not over until both humans die, and the crystarium for skills is unlocked from the beginning, not like in XIII.
Dialog choices pop up quite often and you can only choose one answer and not stand there and milk them all out.
Quicktime events are optional and can result in a little boost like buffs but you're not forced to execute them...they're easy anyway.
There is a video recap of XIII in the menu for those who can't be bothered to play it.
---------------------
Oh and the videos on the 360 are now 720p in XIII-2, but still horrible bink video. 2.85GB are video files. Almost all cutscenes are now done in realtime so it's not that big of a deal. The two or three CGI ones are better compressed and other than those, there's maybe 5 more minutes of video (not counting the XIII recap from the menu, those are the worst encoded videos in history (200kb/s vs 2MB/s for XIII-2 CGI)). The game itself is also 720p this time on the 360 and looks identical to the PS3 one. The framerate in overal is worse than in XIII, and still worse on the 360 compared to the PS3.
I checked the videos myself, the framerate/pic analasys is from http://blog.livedoor.jp/ps360/archives/53310037.html (the videos show stuff from the first 30 minutes of the game)

I'm sure they cut content but not for the reason of it being ported to 360 and i'm sure the content isn't enough for a full game. Square Enix are just making excuses and talking shit.
