After weeks of playing coy and denying any existence of Borderlands 2, Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford has confirmed that a sequel to the 2009 hit is indeed in the works.
Speaking with VG247, Randy broke the news saying,
I’m sure Duke will have some demands of me and I’ve gotta work on Borderlands 2, right?
A sequel was really a no-brainer considering the original sold close to 3 million copies worldwide and was a critical success. New details are sure to surface soon and when they do we will have them here for you

Well, I was anxious to play it so I bought it for the PS3 initially, and then sold it to buy the PC version. I'm not ashamed as I had a lot of fun with the game. I did d/l the DLC though. So I guess I evened out in the long run, sorta.

Both Pitchford and vg247 clarify that it was just a joke and there is no announcement that the game is in development: http://www.vg247.com/2011/02/10/no-randy-pitchford-did-not-confirm-borderlands-2-was-in-development/
Quote: | The quote – which explicitly implied Pitchford was joking – read: “‘I’m sure Duke will have some demands of me and I’ve gotta work on Borderlands 2, right?’ (laughs)”
Please pay close attention to the “laughs” bit at the end. This clearly implies Pitchford was making a joke. We thought we made that clear. Apparently, not clear enough.
To set the record straight, we contacted the man himself. This is what he had to say on the matter: “Yes, of course I was joking. It’s absurd to think otherwise and irresponsible for someone to represent otherwise,” he said.
“There has been a lot of people assuming that we are working on Borderlands 2. The reality is that we have made no announcements about future plans there.
“I was making a joke about the assumption that people have made that effort on Duke affects the future of Borderlands.
“It was a joke. I should know better.” |

Well it's fairly obvious Borderlands 2 is a distinct possibility, so whether it's in current development or not (and notice how Pitchford didn't specifically say they WEREN'T working on one...) it's not a long stretch to expect that one will be coming eventually. The success of BL1 was just too great.
... all I ask this time is that we get some mod tools. Please. Pretty please.

Yes, I'm sure there will be a Borderlands 2 at some point. As for mod tools, personally I don't think it's very probable Borderlands 2 will ship with them, but at least Steve Gibson has apologized for some problematic aspects of the PC version (UI..) so hopefully they'll work on it harder next time.
Quote: | may as well apologize for borderlands PC UI stuff as well since that seems to come up once in a while. it was certainly blocked off to have a significant amount of time dedicated to the PC UI and i was only at gearbox for a few months at the time. i didnt know any better about how unpredictable things really are.

Quote: | it worked but wasnt nearly as refined for PC / mouse as intended. hell you cant even go back/foward when trying to select resolutions... you have to cycle through them all. |
Quote: | oh it sold a heck of a lot on pc and it was great. was apologizing for my mistake is all... not the game |

Hopefully this time around it'll have armor pieces as well. Like I said in some other thread, in the end the weapon system wasn't really that great, a gazillion weapons don't mean squat when 99.9% of them are virtually the same - looks and effect-wise.

Personally I hope that the plot will be a bit more interesting this time, I never managed to finish the first one because of the lack of a coherent story (something worth shooting for); other than this, it was really good

Yeah, the flimsy story wasn't enough motivation for me to finish the game either.
1 and 2 are still amazing.

But the game was a console port and really felt like it. The toggle run, no letterbox resolution, aim assist in the menu.... I hope B2 corrects the failings of B1.
1 and 2 are still amazing.

Yeah there won't be any modding, they're pretty clear on their stance regarding modding.
Still there will be fans saying that it can still happen and they're good guys etc.
It's a 2K owned company, allow me to point out all the marvelous modding tools that got released for Bioshock 1 and 2, Borderlands, etc.
Also while I bought the original borderlands to play in LAN with friends, I shall not be buying this one due to the piss poor job that was done with Duke 4E. The next game they make will just be dumbed further down, and I really don't care for it, the only reason that I was remotely interested in Duke 4E, was due to the fact that it's predecessor literally came out in the golden age.
