Well I doubt that they'll use that for cell phone cameras. From what I've seen in these articles, those would mainly be used in spectroscopy in labs around the world.
I don't see what's confusing to you? How CCD and CMOS chips work? Where could that be applicable? Something other?

I want to know if a cellphone camera is sensitive enough to detect UV light.
I need to know that for some possible experiments with it.

Infrared light yes, ultra violett... well don't you have an UV lamp at home? Shouldn't be that hard to check. Mobile phones have VERY cheap camera inside of them, so that they basically catch everything as there is no money for proper filters (like IR filters).

Sensitivity in cheap ccd chips in cell phones.... I don't think so...
The thing is, I doubt that mobile phone companies will put some expensive chip in their mobile phone, since that wouldn't be profitable...

By filtering the regular light?
Catching IR only is pretty easy. Take some exposed film, hold it infront of your cam et voila. Only IR will go trough.

That would be the next step.
First I must know if it's even possible to detect it, if not, then there's no use to what I'm trying to do.
Too bad there's no such information on Phones specs.
