cool cool... have to say tho the original dawn of wars were more fun.
I like base building, but will prolly buy the expansions anyways as I love warhammer games and their "stories" in SP.

Some screens.

EDIT: Though they're pointless as they show the previous freely released DLC mode instead of the expansion.

A proper single player campaign would be nice.

Umm... proper? As in, the original DoW2 didn't have one? *laughs* I'm not sure which game you were playing mate, but the Dawn of War 2 that *I* played had a fantastic SP campaign Laughing

@Leo

Seconded! I hope we get a LOT of expansions for DoW2. Sure I miss the base-building aspect of the first, but the gameplay and story was so much better! Gimme Orcz and Eldar campaigns, please! Very Happy

DoW 2 was a step backwards compared to awesomeness of warhammer 40k

I don't really see how, to be honest. The only thing that would be considered a step-backward was the exclusion of base building. Everything else got a massive upgrade.

You seem to know little about the "awesomeness of warhammer 40k". It is not about base building or huge battles, it is about concentrated skirmishes of a small force against another small force, which the game captures absolutely. Smile

I bought DoW 2 and have been playing it off and on since release. I'm not hard core, but I love the game overall. It's not quite up to CoH standards, but still is a great game in its own right. Personally, I like the "real time tactical" feel of the game as opposed to a standard RTS. It was worth the $50 IMHO and I've seen it on sale for as low as $25. The new DLC coming out looks good and I'm hoping that the xpac is great as well. I'm sure I'll be getting it. Hopefully the price won't be too much, although I expect it will go for $30 and have the multi similiar to Tales of Valor. That would be my guess at least.

Aww, we won't be hearing "Yes master, right away master!" anymore Sad
Still, it's my favorite race so I'm glad they took the decision to include them. I'd love to play the campaign as a Chaos lord :>

screenshots:

I'm a bit disappointed by the unit choices:
there are re-textured marines, devastators, dreadnaught and predator (and now in game there will be 3 version of the predator.. normal, looted, chaos.. lol...)

in the upper side of the page there is a banner with a demon - the ones who know it call it bloodcrusher - a demon riding armored.. rhino Very Happy

the campaign will start where dow 2 left... with the space marines.. again Sad (I want my eldar). You will continue with all the levels and items you have. The level cap is raised to 30.

The interesting thing is the corruption meter. You could continue to fight for Da empra, or go baddass & corrupt, become a chaos marines - equip chaos stuff Razz

it's almost certain there will be 1 more commander for each race. Also some/a new unit for the races..I hope chaos will get the naked daemonesses Razz

It's a shame they're not adding completely NEW campaigns, like being able to play as Eldar/Orcz/Chaos Sad

well, with the corruption meter, the playable space marines could (if the player decides) transform into chaos marines, so it's still something Smile

Also the devs said they are adding new missions type, and there will be no more ultra boring defense maps...(i hate those maps)

edit: oh, and also, yay for the snow tileset Razz

Why hate them? They game you an achievement for quick finishing of a map, and also you get free loot (the missions were very easy). Razz

Really dissappointing they didn't go for a chaos campaign ( or any other one). Sure space marines is fun to play but they are IMO the most bland race of them all.

Then again the campaign in DoW2 was great so Im glad they are sticking to that at least.

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II - Chaos Rising Dev Diary with Daniel Kading

Too long; did not watch - Game is set 1 year after DoW2; librarian that can equip spells pretty much as other units equip accessories; corruption system (you can take the evil path!); more than 1 ending; level 30 (what was the limit in DoWII? 20?).

Edit: ...and all of this has been already said! Splendid! Embarassed

First expansion for DoW 1 only added 1 race. Besides, I think they want to avoid the problems of balancing 10 or so factions.

That's true, but vanilla DoW1 had four races to begin with. DoW2 only started with two.

I'm not suggesting they add all the races present in Soulstorm right away, but this is a little too conservative.

Two races?
Space marines, eldar, tyranids, orks.. that's pretty much 4 to me Smile
(it's a different story that each race has minimal amount of units - and in eldar's case- ridiculous amount of set- up platforms instead of aspect warriors..which kills any hint of the race being highly mobile as it should be..)

Ahhhh, right. Dunno why I thought it was just Space Marines and Orks. Embarassed

But yeah, minimal units. Perhaps that's why it just felt like two races. Laughing
