Ok. So how the hell people do it ? How ? I can generally hold my own and get kds of 2 but for that i really got to pay attention, work hard for each kill and mostly make sure i flank people. If i woudlnt watch youtube i'd say that's all you can do with a controller and that's probably how everyone plays. But then i see vids like
http://www.youtube.com/user/E7YC3#p/c/DA25770BB305F1FA/0/1xWJdpJpiDk
and there's plenty more videos out there mostly for mw2 and black ops which i dont feel like linking because i dont like cod games. SO anyway..
HOW ?!
It's the copious amounts of auto-aim lavished on every console shooter. In COD4/MW2, just the very act of tapping the left trigger AUTOMATICALLY snaps the crosshair to the enemy. Couple that with the engine-exploiting nonsense of "quick scoping"--- and you've got your answer.
Yeah, a load of practice. I went (and I bet a lot of people here did) from mouse and keyboard to controller and sucked at first. Now I find it the other way around and can't use a keyboard to save my life.
COD series is a bad example really as Sabin said, it's got auto aim which helps. Even with auto aim turned off it's still partially on which imo, sucks big time (hence one of the reasons I rarely play it). You'll find that if you're aimed on someone and another player runs across your sights, the crosshair will try to follow them

Yeah, even the PC version of Bulletstorm has that. I was playing it and having to fight with the mouse because the crosshair was constantly locking to enemies and tracking with them
It is impossible to play FPS games as twitchy and fast as on pc, but I find analogs (on 360 becouse I cant ...JUST CANT play on ps3 controller analogs) pretty comfortable.
Playing on analogs gives me that smooth butterish cinamatic feel and after playing some games(I own 360 which is my first console for 2 years) I think I am very good with controller. Crysis2 mp demo was quite easy for me. After all it can get quite easy and intuitive. My friend even once told me that looking just on screen, its hard to notice if I am playing with controller or mouse.
That goes to most experienced users.
I am a pc gamer for over 14 years. And Console for only 2years. I have good pc, but still mostly choose to play games on console just for comfort.
One of few games I am actually going to play and buy on PC is Duke Nukem Forever. I promised myself that over 14 years ago

Aw.. aimbot features ^^. I play MAG anyway and there's no aiming help there, maybe thats the reason there's not many OMGWTFPWN montages of MAG ? =)
Edit: ok i found one
Stop using the consoles for what they suck at (or get a mouse for the console). Regardless of how "great" people are at aiming in consoles, they still suck ass compared to a dude with a mouse on a PC.

A game on the consoles that requires skill?
On one hand there is no aiming help, on the other hand everybody gets 2 grenades. Imagine a battlefield of 256 players where everyone when they spawn, the first thing they do is throw their grenades. Add the people camping near the ammo resupply thingie and all they do is throw grenade nr1, throw grenade nr2, resupply, repeat, and you get a big exploding fest
But anyway i got pissed at my lack of controlling skills, started fresh with a lvl1 dude and played 24 hours straight to lvl 30 =D Started getting better, might actually consider playing my shooters on the ps3, kinda got bored of the pc and certanly got bored of getting called a cheater every friking day in bc2 by those exact pc elitists that talk about skill (edit: talking about 90% of german clans) yet they think if you're better than them you must be cheating ! fuck that, back to mag for now =)
Aww.. ok, definitely need to post this. After more mag on ps3 and more bc2 on pc i think there's soo much more fail by the pc players. Really, join a random server on bc2 and what do you get? Players camping in corners, crouching in the bushes, sitting there scoping with a gustav and many many more aimless dudes that.. dunno.. just sit there crouching.. like statues.
Now join a random game in mag, everyone can aim, everyone uses his knife, nobody just sits there waiting for.. rain? Also the other day, after arming the bomb, i stopped there for like 3 seconds to stub out my cigg and already hear a dude saying "dont camp there mate, you'll die, place the bomb, get out and camp outside". WOW. only good impressions so far from the ps3 players and so I think the number of dumb pc players is wayyyyy way bigger than on the consoles.
Any opinions? Similar impressions? Maybe its just mag? Agree? Disagree?
Well, i've been a PC gamer for 15 years. I only got a console for 3 months but i enjoy the challenge of aiming with a controller moreso than i do with a mouse right now.
I haven't seen a convincible solution for mouse/kb on consoles yet. There is always the problem with the stick acceleration, that you don't have with a mouse on PC.
On consoles, the more you move the stick, the faster the character looks around. It's different from mouse controls, where movement transfers directly. And I don't see how that can be avoided by such boxes. You would need developer support in the games for that.
