So I read that tweaking homefront from 128 maxchannel to 64 should fix some performance issues.
However I'd love to know what this actually does and even if my headset(or soundcard) support this feature.
I did some googleling but couldn't find anything that made any sense to me as to what it is/does, so if anyone who would be able to explain it to me would be super awesome. ^_^

It's from Mass Effect, hope it helps Smile

Quote:
MaxChannels=64

This option controls the maximum number of individual audio channels used for sound in Mass Effect. Almost all modern sound cards support at least 32 channels; Audigy series cards can support up to 64; X-Fi cards support up to 128. If you're having audio problems set this value to the maximum channels supported by your audio device, or to try to improve performance or reduce audio glitches, try a slightly lower value, or just 32 if all else fails. Note though that if set too low you will get missing or glitching sounds.

Setting it lower will ALWAYS work. If you have sound with 128 channels, you can safely turn it down to 64. It'll affect quality a bit, but nothing too serious Smile

So what happens when you get audio from all 128 channels as opposed to 64 channels? Any effect when using normal stereo?

I get that, there are more channels active in parallel I assume. But what do I hear? Do I hear that birdie chirping at 128 when I can't hear it at 68, because there are not enough channels?

Yes, exactly. Usually the ambiance sounds are rendered last to provide the option to cut them, while keeping the more important sounds on. Smile
