Understandable, and there are many other people here are great at hardware, i'm mediocre, just thought i'd offer my twocents, don't take it even with more than a grain of salt if some of the experts here advise the alternate.

A good generation jump. You'll be set with a i7 2600k for the next 2-3 years with no problems.

Wouldn't it better to wait just a small bit for the new sandy bridges though?

The 2x00 series *are* Sandy-Bridge processors, my man. Starting from the i3-2100 up to the i7-2600 (and the K models with unlocked multiplier)

Hm.. I've got 200 euros to spend on a store because they sold me a kaputt graphics card, perhaps I should get a new mobo and a CPU as well... got Core2Duo E6550 atm, I suppose it would be a sensibile choice to upgrade both?
My motherboard's P5KR, ASUS.

i was lookin (JUST LOOKIN,not buying!) at some of the newest ASUS boards...and well,i was lookin for one that was compatible with the newest i5 New-Gen or 2nd Gen (so it's called here, somewhat)
But the thing is,i'm NOT an Overclocker (afraid of burrrrrrrrnin'!) ,so i dun wanna waste too much money on a board that's specialized on OC'in...but of course, lookin for USB3.0,SATA 6GB/s and stuff..ya kno',new gen
And i've heard the newest 2nd gen intel's i5 has an "internal graphics card/chip" or whatever...hope that doesnt conflicts with my 460GTX (bad performance or viewing just bcz 2 GPUs are on at the same time).
I'm a gamer,non-OC'er,and the only stuff i actually use is Team Fortress 2,Photoshop CS5,Pinnacle Studio 12 (fuck you 14) and Sony Vegas Pro 9 (10 has probs of install/executing when upgraded or something from old version to new),along with the newest, only interesting (for me),games comin' out (DEAD SPACE 2,CRYSIS 2,etc....)
What would you guys recommend?...You can actually see my rig at the signature.
Again,no trolling, and NOT goin to buy like NOW a new mobo/CPU,just trying to have an idea of what would you guys recommend and reasons blabllabla..
Thanks in advance..sorry for the "Cool Story Bro"...but anyone would've asked for help too,ne?

I am also thinking of upgrading.
Right now I have
QX6700 core 2 quad
8GB DDR2 800
2x HD4850 512MB crossfire
Was looking to upgrade to
i7-2600
16GB DDR3 1333
MSI P67A-GD65 mobo
2x HD6850 1GB crossfire.
Is it worth the upgrade?

The RAM is definitely overkill. Heck, 8GB is close to overkill, 16GB is just ridiculous (unless you do some serious super-resolution work in Photoshop while you have massive databases running etc.)
Otherwise it's nice stuff.

Youre not going to overclock? Because then you can take the i7 2600K version with unlocked multiplier.

Beware that the Radeon 6850 isn't today what the 4850 was two years ago. AMD changed the naming scheme, while the 48xx cards were top-tier products the 68xx cards are the new medium-priced category. You will see a performance increase, but not as much as one would expect from the name alone.
It would be better to stick to 8GB RAM and invest the saved money into beefier GPU(s).

I run 2 or 3 VMs at the same time. Hence the reason for all the RAM

Oh, I missed that he wrote 6850 instead of 6950. Two 6850'ies are pointless. Better get a 6950 or 570.

For gaming purposes - Nope.
My E8400 GTX470 can still play every game max settings @ 1920*1200.. So yeah.
IMO, I'd wait for the socket LGA2011 stuff to come out later this year and then upgrade. If you get a LGA2011 board you'll be good for a fucking long time.

Even Lynnfield, Bloomfield or Gulftown will be fine for at least a couple of years as far as gaming is concerned
Wait for the GTX 560, it'll shake prices around a bit, and it shouldn't have the shipping issues the GF110 have/had (570 is solved by now, 580 is still shit). Even if you're not actually picking up NVIDIA by that time, it's worth waiting, it's due next week

ASUS has released these MoBos http://www.asus.com/ProductGroup2.aspx?PG_ID=mKyCKlQ4oSEtSu5m
But i dont know what's the difference tween ALL of the P8P67 differences...one of em,wich caught my interest,is the "DELUXE" one, wich has a front-side USB 3.0 cable for the PC's tower, thou i dunno if it's a FULL BAY slot or just small one....thou the bitch would cost 220€
Also now they all got the B3 revision to fix the SATA or USB with the intel chipsets, but in spain we dun have em yet (except GIGABYTE's boards)
My main choose in CPU also would be one of the newest i-5 2nd Gen (aka Sandy Bridge),since i dun use much of CPU for 3D.
Still saving money just in case, job gives a shit but hey, something's something
