Genre: MMO Combat Flight Sim - so they didn't pull off enough rip-off with their DLCs, now it will be monthly rip-off. Laughing

Thanks to @Decca77 for pointing it out in the Cliffs of Dover thread!

Brace yourselves for truck load of promises pre-release, then very little support post-release and finally a complete abandonment from the developers after 2-3 months, as announcement of a sequel/expansion/etc. comes. Laughing

I think it's a brilliant idea. Hopefully they set it up in zones though. This is very important so we don't end up with p51 vs ME262 fights all over. That would be boring. Every zone should be huge so you can go out on a prowl on your own looking to zoom in and bag a kill and then speed off without being blobbed to death immediately.

I'll be following this one closely.

Modern era is nowhere near as interesting as WW2, or rather, it is interesting in completely different fields. Dogfights, for example, are nowhere near as interesting as WW1 and WW2 era aircrafts.

I completely agree about WW2 era but there are few interesting jet periods. Korea was good, Vietnam had a good moments (guns vs early generation of missiles, gum-sights, gun pods). There is one more interesting period with jets in the 70's and 80's. Some really intensive dogfights over Israel and neighbored countries, Kfirs and Mirages vs. Migs . Interesting tactics and air battles. AA missiles were considered as "bidon" ( drop tanks in French Smile) and art of gun fighting at high speeds was at its best.

As Giora Epstein said, after F-16 with FbW was introduced he didn't have a same feeling of complete control over plane. Dogfight became "click and kill" and all aspect AA missiles removed the importance of the 6'o clock.

exactly, we dont need to get f22-super-stealth vs f22-super-stealth who lock first win, but also stop to all these ww2 era games...
btw, the game seems fun so i will definitely check it out. Smile

I think it was the F-14 and the Phoenix missiles that destroyed air to air combat. Tracking six targets at once, 100nm range. They were shooting planes down before the other plane even saw them. After that it became all about 1) range and 2) see them before they see you (stealth) so you could shoot first.

Tried it briefly earlier but couldn't find a way to add my joystick. There are a bunch of them supported but not mine so ended up having a go with a 360 controller. Couldn't be arsed to play like that right now so put it aside for now.

Betas are being given primarily to owners of WoP and they are tied to yuplay accounts. My account has WoP and a few other games on it and I wouldn't share my login. I doubt others would either. Sign up and apply for the beta - maybe you'll get lucky. Wink

Had another quick look at this and saw the controls can all be configged and my joystick works. Initial impressions is the game feels very much like WoP. I need to set up all my controls and buttons to get me the same feel I had but first attempts have me feeling pretty enthusiastic about this. I should say WoP = Wings of Prey... just realised the initials are the same for World of Planes LOL.

I got in the beta, a few weeks ago but they didn't send an email (or i've missed it)
Downloaded the game and had time to play for 20 minutes.

It's much more fun than world of warplanes, it looks better and feels better.I'm sure when i'm able to fly straight i will enjoy it even more Smile
