What incredible news today, as I've just been informed that the hit action-adventure game Outcast, developed in 1999 for the PC, is now getting an overhaul. Fresh3D Inc hopes through Kickstarter funding to overhaul the graphics and new game play and releasing it as Outcast Reboot HD. Finally gamers, Outcast is back and better than ever!
Kickstarter Goal : $600,000
Systems : PC,Mac,Linux
Release Date : Oct 2015
Well it's at least partly the original team so they might stay true to the experience, but honestly, those stretch goals definition before collecting the money is bullshit. Just make your game first and if you are close to reach funding add stretch goals.
600.000 just for recreating the art in higher resolution and using a ready 3d engine sounds like a money grab and yet I don't think that they will be able to deliver properly. Not one single interesting game was in their previous portfolio.

SteamDRM-"Call of Duty is the symbol of the true perfection in every aspect. Call of Duty games are like Mozart's/Beethoven's symphonies"
deadpoetic-"are you new to the cyberspace?"
$600,000 for what bascially is a "fan patch" ($0 budget and is free).
And yes i backed it. and yes PumpAction's post made me realize i should probably learn to read up a bit more before i rush into pledging stuff, lol. That "nostalgia high" makes you do stupid shit sometimes.
Would be nice if they could re-create the game in HD without too much being sacrificed or how to say, I'll just wait and see how it goes.
(How is it with the rights and such to the franchise?)
I'm..okay with this. Sounds like something that doesn't alter the original (awesome) experience too much, but only makes it 'prettier' and probably less clunky. It's not an easy task though
I love this game with a passion.. hope they don't fuck it up, but since some members of the original team are working on it, they might not want to butcher their masterpiece.

It's kind of odd that they write nothing about how they need to change engine and redo absolutely everything from scratch.. well, they do write about their "tech" further down (not in the "why we need $600,000" section) that they're going to use their Fresh Engine, which they've used for some 3/10 PS2 games (Ok, maybe that's why they dont write about it too much at the top of the page, heh)
My bet it will turn out a butt ugly, clunky game, with tons of bugs (their previous efforts leaves a lot to be desired). And again it's rather strange of them to write that they're going to "fix bugs", like they're just adding stuff to an already finished game, which is pretty far from the truth... They're misleading the backers, on purpose.. probably not a good sign?

You really should've looked at the kickstarter text first
"I was a programmer of the original Outcast team" -the graphics programmer, interesting.
If that programmer hasn't done anything meaningfull since the game, it's probably a shitty programmer. The "original developers are working on it" line only works if those original developers actually did something other than one good game imo. It's the difference between "we've got time to do a remaster for you guys between the awesome projects" and "we need the money, so we'll remaster our ancient classic guys".

Well the games industry in Belgium is pretty shit - and knowing Wallonians, most won't move because they stink at speaking anything other than French .

Not sure what you mean. The point is they didn't show anything new, terrain we've seen in teh video above that and all the models used are from 1999 so the only thing new being the terrain we've seen before makes this presentation kinda pointless as nothing new was presented.
