Vesterbacka went on to declare that console games are "dying" and the idea of paying $50 for a game is going the way of the dodo.
That's a bold statement, considering the continued success of console games like Call of Duty: Black Ops, which has sold 13.7 million units in America alone. Rovio's Angry Birds has been downloaded – according to the studio – over 100 million times. It's difficult to make a straight comparison with Black Ops' revenue, as the 100 million figure includes lite and ad-supported, but that does not detract from Rovio's overall achievement.

Haha already seen that news on local site, and as usual the console derps ( especially the PS3 derps ) are all up in arms.

That's a very bold statement, that doesn't make much sense to me really.
Sure, the amount of casual users is growing, but so is the amount of "hardcore" users that play "real" games. Amount of casual users is growing in a much faster rate because the games are so much more accessible, so the relative percent of hardcore users is falling. But that doesn't mean those games are dying. However it's hard to even compare the two markets, let alone to assume that casual games will somehow kill "real" games.

Of course I don't agree with him but notice what he said is that $50 games are doomed; he didn't actually say nobody is going to make hardcore games.
You can make hardcore games and charge $10 for them but also have micro-transactions or whatever.

I paid 74.90€ for God Of War 3 when it was released, and it wasnt even collectors edition Brand new console games are usually 64.90€-74.90€ in finnish markets -.- Havent bought any new console game after that
Angry birds is a decent enough casual game , compared to some of the £40-50 full price titles trust me its fucking epic.
Console and pc gaming will die if they continue to charge the amount of money they do , most people dont have the disposable cash they used to have and are being more selective about what they buy.
PSN appears to be gaining traction tapping into the casual and social gaming market with titles such as Angry Birds which is the most downloaded game through the PSN (it was launched in January 2011).
RIP console gaming
